Do you love bee themed decor? Check out all the inexpensive DIY bee home decor that I decorated with on my mantel shelf. Isn’t it bee-utiful?!
I am excited to share my bee home decor with you all today. As usual, I decorated my mantel shelf in the room we playfully call the parlor. π This mantel shelf is definitely a staple when I am doing my seasonal decorating. It creates a fabulous focal point on the big wall and I love to coordinate the decor in the whole room around it.
I have already shared my DIY beehives and DIY bees with you in the last couple of weeks, but now you get to see how I decorated with them.
This bee decor is perfect for summer. I love the cheery color combination with the golds and the neutrals. Black and gold can be a pretty bold color combination on it’s own. However, when you mix in the neutral tans and whites, it tones it down tremendously.
Honeycomb backdrop
I also made a honeycomb backdrop for the mantel using different shades of paper in those colors mentioned above. I will share the tutorial for that soon. Isn’t it super cute?! Even though some of the hexagons are askew and not perfectly shaped (ugh), I was still really happy with how this bee themed mantel turned out.
I kind of wish I could make it again because I would change how I did some things and I know it would turn out better. However, it was a one shot deal. When I share the tutorial next week, I will chat about some of those things that I would change if I made it again, so you won’t have the same problem. π
DIY beehives and bees
I think the show stoppers on the mantel are my bee skeps, aka beehives. They are one of my favorite projects that I have made, I just love how they turned out. I think they look really authentic, like something you would buy in an antique store.
But let’s not forget about these adorable wood bead and wire bees too! If you missed that tutorial, check it out! They were so quick and easy to make. I placed some of them on the beehives using a little hot glue. However, I really adore the ones flying around the honeycomb!
I already had some command hooks on the top of our DIY shiplap backdrop from previous mantels. So I used those to hang some fishing wire from and tied the bees on. So easy for a really cute effect!
Gold and black accessories
In the middle of the mantel is this perfect honey sign that I picked up at Hobby Lobby. It went so well with everything else that I already had or made.
On each side of the mantel, I used something with a bit of height like these flowers. These little yellow round flowers were perfect for this bee decor. Adding a little greenery also helped to soften the look of the bold black and gold.
On the other side, I added some tall candleholders. Placing the beehive on a couple books also helped to give some layers to the height of the mantel decor. Of course, the books are gold and black to go with the theme. π
Coordinating pillows for the win
If you follow my blog, you already know I LOVE pillow covers. I have a pretty big stash of them, some that I have made myself and some that I have bought. If you would like to learn how to make an easy zippered pillow cover, check out my post. I have plenty of pillow posts for you to check out as well. I will link to some below, but just search pillow on my site and you will find a treasure trove of information. π
The cute bee pillow cover was found at Hobby Lobby as well. A lot of the others I have gotten over time. Ikea is another great source for pillow covers. In fact, their down feather pillows are the only ones I use now. They are awesome!
