Whip up these simple macrame bunny napkin rings to dress up your Easter tablescape this year. Not only are they super adorable, they are easy to make!
Hey friends! We are drawing closer to Easter and I am back today with another fun Easter craft that you can make before the big day. You can easily decorate your Easter table this year with these simple bunny napkin rings. You don’t have to go all out with the decorating, these macrame bunny napkin rings will make a big statement all on their own! Aren’t they so stinking cute?
I think some people get intimidated by macrame projects. They certainly look way more complicated than they are. In fact, it is only a couple easy knots to make up these DIY macrame bunny ears. I will walk you through how to do it and by the time you are done, you will be an expert. 😉
I just love the look of macrame projects! There is something about macrame that calls to me. 🙂 There are still a few projects I would like to make, for example, a table runner and a big wall hanging, but I haven’t gotten that far yet. Maybe they will show up on the blog someday… but for now these bunny napkin rings scratch my itch. I also just made a fun boho bunny wreath recently. You should check that out if you missed it.
Easter napkin rings to go with any decor
Another great thing about these napkin rings are their neutral color! I have used mine with some soft green napkins, but you could use them with any color!
There are also another way to use these bunny napkin rings after you are done with Easter. Baby teethers! Believe it or not, I have seen people make baby teethers in the same way! Now you won’t look at the picture below and not see baby teethers. Ha!

- Wood rings – 2¼” in diameter
- Macrame cord (4mm)
- Scissors
- Tape measure
How to make macrame bunny napkin rings
Cut four lengths of 4 mm macrame cord to 40 inches each. Set two aside for later use.
Take one wood ring and tie a lark’s head knot onto it. To make a lark’s head knot, take one of your cords and fold it in half. Lay the folded end on the wood ring. Bring the cut ends around the wood ring and up through loop. Make sure the cut ends are mostly even and pull the ends to tighten the knot on the wood ring. Bring the knot to the top of the wood ring to move it out of the way.
Make another lark’s head knot so you have two knots on the wood ring.
Turn the wood ring around so the knots at the bottom of the wood ring and measure two inches away from the lark’s head knots. This is where you will make your first square knot.
How to make a square knot
When I was making this, Mr. Wonderful commented that this looked like a person. He is right! So I am going to explain how to tie this knot by talking about this rope guy’s arms and legs. 😉
To make a square knot, take the left arm and fold it over both legs and under the right arm. Next take the right arm and run it under the left arm and both legs, coming out over the left arm again through the opening on the left side. Pull both arms tight. If the knot looks like a pretzel, you know you did it correctly. Check your measurement to see that you are still at two inches for the placement of the square knot.
Next, you will do the same thing just starting on the right hand side this time. Right arm goes over both legs, then under left arm. Left arm goes under right arm and both legs and comes out going over right arm again. Pull the both arms tight. There we have our first square knot completed!
Now turn the wood ring so the knots are at the top of the ring. Separate the four strands into groups of two. We will work with the left group first. Bring the right rope of this group down under the square knot and out between the two lark’s head knots.
We will tie square knots on this left side to make a square knot chain. Beginning with the right “arm”, start making square knot as you learned above.
Finish out the square knot on the other side, using the left arm.
Continue on making your square knot chain. Here is a tip for you… if you forget which side you are supposed work on next, just look for the side with the rope on top. You will start the next knot on that side. Make sure you are keeping the knots tight and push your knots up so you can fit more knots on. The more knots you have, the more stable the bunny ears are.
When you have reached the bottom, turn the wood ring over and tie a knot on the back. You can optionally secure this knot with some glue as well if you would like to. Cut off the excess cords.
Rinse and repeat
Now make a square knot chain on the right hand side of the bunny ear. Follow the same instructions as above.
On this side, you will also start the square knot with the right arm. Starting it with the wrong arm can leave you with a squared off bunny ear. I learned from experience. 😉
Continue in the same fashion until you now have one completed bunny ear.
Make a pair of bunny ears
Repeat the whole process again to make another bunny ear. Now you have a pair of bunny ears and a finished macrame bunny napkin ring!
How cute is this little bunny?!
