I am excited to share my fall decor with you today. I am in love with this burnt orange and gold fall decor. The color combination is so warm and pretty. It gives me all the fall feels. 🙂
This has been a post I have been meaning to get up for some time but honestly, for a long while, I lost my motivation. Has that ever happened to you? I think sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves to get everything done and finally our bodies tell us no more. We had a busy beginning of the year working on some home projects in preparation for a graduation in May. I couldn’t keep up with the blogging schedule and the home renovations at the same time. After the graduation was over, I think I was just plain burnt out.
But after some much needed time off, I am glad to be back! If you follow along with my blog, you know that the living room is the place where I do most of my decorating. There are some hints of decor around the rest of the house too, but this is always the most centralized place for decor. I hope you don’t get tired of seeing it! 🙂
This mantel is usually the focus point for the decor and the rest of the room coordinates with the mantel. I decorated my mantel similar to my St. Patrick’s Day mantel this year. In truth, this backdrop and the books have stayed on the mantel all year! Remember that lack of motivation thing? Ha! However, I really like the neutral look of them and they are easy to change up for the seasons. This summer I just had my Dahlia wreath hung up with some jars on the books with faux flowers in them. Super simple but still cute.
Since I was still loving them, I decided to leave them on the mantel for fall too. To recreate this look, just find some books at the thrift store and rip off those covers! Sorry book lovers! Then tie some jute string around them. So easy!
I did make a couple new DIY projects for my mantel though. This easy Autumn wreath was shared with you last week and I will be sharing this DIY fall leaf paper bag garland next week. I was really happy with how both of these projects turned out. The leaf garland was fun to make and looks so realistic! If you haven’t already noticed, I even stitched some veins onto some of the leaves.
I found these mini orange pumpkins at the Target dollar spot but they only had 2 of them. 🙁 After checking back a couple times with no success, I was resigned to the fact that I would have to do something else for on top of the other two book stacks.
I had some other mini pumpkins but I wanted them to look similar to the fabric ones. So I decided just to make some. 🙂 I had the gold fabric in my stash already and used some stems off of pumpkins I had made last year. Here is a tutorial on how to make fabric pumpkins if you want to make some yourself. Aren’t they cute?
I also created a simple vignette for the coffee table using some pumpkins in the same color family stacked on some more books.
In a vase, I added some real branches with some leaves just starting to turn colors from the yard. Things found in nature are the best kind of decorations because they are the real deal. Really, that is what all the faux decor is trying to mimic, right? I don’t always use real plants but when I can it is a bonus! Plus, it is free!! 😉 Also, it is an easy way to add in some fall decor.
Of course, you can’t forget about pillows. I made some new plaid pillow covers out of a tablecloth! I got two pillow covers plus leftover material out of one tablecloth. It was much cheaper than buying the fabric and the colors were perfect! Next time you are looking for some fabric, especially plaid fabric, don’t forget to look in the table linen section. I will be doing the same thing for my Christmas pillows! If you have not made pillow covers before, check out this easy zippered pillow cover tutorial. So much less expensive than buying them and you can customize them how you like.
Want another pillow tip? See the burnt orange pillows? Those are actually pillow shams from a duvet cover set we have. I just put them on some pillows and tucked in the extra length on the bottom. No one is the wiser. You can thank me for that tip later when you discover all the new pillow covers you have! 😉
I just love the colors of fall decor. Too bad it is such a short season! Soon we will be moving on to Christmas. But before that I will be back to show you how I made that leaf garland. Have a wonderful day!
