Decorate a candy Christmas tree this year with your own homemade candy decorations. The red and white classic Christmas color palette looks beautiful with the candy theme.
Hey guys!! We finished our four part candy ornament series so I finally get to share my candy Christmas tree! Not only do you get to see the tree, but the mantel decor as well. So hold on to your hats, because this will be a longer and picture heavy post! π We’ll focus on the mantel first and then move on to the Christmas tree!
Red and burgundy Christmas Mantel
When I was first considering tree colors this year, I thought I was going to decorate a burgundy and white tree. However, the candy Christmas theme also emerged and that worked better with a traditional red color and white. Instead of abandoning the burgundy idea, I decided to include them all and I couldn’t be happier with the turnout!
I found this red berry wreath at Hobby Lobby and it worked perfectly as it had both red and burgundy in it. I just tied it onto the front of some garland with some green ribbon and it acts as a centerpiece on the front of the mantel.
I also found the perfect ribbon there as well. It is a plaid ribbon with both burgundy and red in it. In addition to adding it to the tree, I put some on the stockings on each side of the mantel.
In the garland, I added some red berry picks and some of the little felt peppermints ornaments that I just shared. Aren’t they super cute? On the mantel, I added some trees that I already had and also added some burgundy berries to them.
Add some fun accessories
I found these cardinals at Hobby Lobby this year as well and was instantly smitten with them! My grandma loved cardinals, so they will forever remind me of her. I think she got something with a cardinal on it every year for Christmas. Ha! How many cardinal sweatshirts does one need? Evidently a lot! π
The Santa is one that I have had around forever, but he fit in so well with the theme that I had to add him too! Did you notice the lit “snow” behind them? The lights that I ran in the garland were a little longer than I needed so I just ran the rest across the top of the mantel and covered it with some pillow stuffing. I thought it looked pretty great! I love the soft glow it creates on the mantel.
I found this pretty little Christmas print at Hobby Lobby too. I loved the simplicity of it and it was just what I was looking for.
Of course, the pillows have to coordinate with the rest of the decor. I added some burgundy, red and white pillows. This DIY snowflake pillow was one I made several years ago. It is so rewarding when I can bring out some of my old projects and give them new life.
Candy Christmas Tree
Now onto the tree, I am really enjoying this candy Christmas theme this year. It is so sweet! Pun intended! Ha! The combination of the burgundy, red and white colors make it feel extra Christmas-y in this room too!
In addition to all the red and burgundy ornaments, I also added in some champagne colored ornaments. I felt it paired really nicely with the reds. It also meshed well with the natural colored baskets under the tree and on the mantel. I found the glitter glass looking ornaments and star tree topper at Hobby Lobby this year too. They matched perfectly with some champagne ornaments I already had. I also added some different berry stems, again some were perfect in that they had burgundy and red berries on them.
I have been so behind on getting things done this year, I literally wrapped presents the other night so I could take these pictures the next day! Oofta! So, needless to say there was no fancy ribbon this year, just good old wrapping paper. At least it matches! LOL!
In addition to the presents, I placed a couple baskets under the tree with some ornaments and lights. They are a fun addition and help to give a little more character under the tree.
DIY Candy Christmas Ornaments
You can see all of the candy ornaments that I made this year on or around the tree. I love decorating a Christmas tree with handmade ornaments, there is something about it that harkens to a simpler time.
These DIY candy cane ornaments are a fun alternative to real candy canes and they will last a lot longer too! π
The red and white striped peppermint balls look lovely on the tree! I love how big they are and they look really classy!
The little felt peppermints ornaments are so cute on the tree and in the garland. I wish I would have had time to make even more to put on there! As it was, I recruited the help of my mother-in-law and future daughter-in-law to help make some. Ha! I was really appreciative for their help!
I still have the lollipop ornaments sitting in the basket instead of on the tree. Just like with the peppermints, I ran out of time to make more. So I only had these four made and thought it would not be enough to have them on the tree. However they still look great sitting in a the basket under the tree and add to the candy Christmas tree theme!
Power up the lights
I took a couple pictures around dusk time as well to show how the tree looks as it gets darker outside. There is nothing that beats the magical glow of Christmas lights at night, is there?
We also had a special visitor come to the house and say hello. Mr. Wonderful was having some fun with this cute Christmas Lego set. Boys will always be boys, amirite?! π
Well, I better close for now but I will be back soon to share my other tree with you! This one is…..drumroll….. silver and gold!! Another classic Christmas color combination. π And I also have one more super duper easy craft to share from that tree. Chat soon friends!
