It is a little crazy to be talking about spring when there is still snow outside the window! 🙂 With the last couple of days we have had it is melting fast though! I am trying to make it feel like spring inside the house and I am really excited to share my citrus and floral spring tablescape with you today! I am so happy to be joining up with some new friends for this spring tablescape blog hop hosted by Kelly from North Country Nest! For more spring table inspiration, make sure to check out some of their links at the bottom of this post.
When I was deciding what to do for my spring table, I was torn between doing a soft colored Easter table or some bright “springy” colors. The fate for this tablescape was sealed when I passed these beautiful tulips at the grocery store. I was instantly drawn to the colors of them and thought of how pretty they would look paired with some citrus fruits. I did not pick them up at that time though because I still had to plan out a few things and did not want them to die in the meantime!
When I went back the next week to get some, the tulips were all gone and replaced with other flowers! I was panicking a little because I had planned out the whole tablescape based on these colors! Realistically I could have gotten some other flowers but I really had my heart set on the tulips.
I had a little time to work with and knowing that tulips are very popular this time of year, I figured they would be back…hopefully in the same colors! If not, I would have to figure something else out. Well, as you can see they came back!! Happy dance! 🙂 Aren’t they beautiful?
I already had the three vases from my sister’s wedding. She used them as centerpieces on the tables with rocks and floating candles in them. Afterwards, she was giving the vases away to family and friends and I was lucky enough to get three! They were perfect to put the tulips in!
Normally I am not a real flowers kind of gal just because of the expense and how long they last, BUT I used them for my St. Patrick’s Day vignette and was hooked! I never paid much attention to how much they actually cost I guess. They were very reasonable in price and the cheeriness real flowers bring to your home is worth every penny! I love walking past them. Now I am not saying I will be buying real flowers on a weekly basis, but a treat once in a while will be nice. 😉
What do you think of the fruit as decor? I think it fits in well with the spring feeling. It would also work great on a summer tablescape. And by the way, the smell of the fresh citrus fruit is amazing! If you leave it out for an extended period of time, it will get dried out and not be edible. Although it will still look good for the whole day, or maybe even several days depending on how long you want to leave the centerpiece up for.
We took the cut fruit down after the photo shoot but left the rest up. We ended up eating the grapefruit over the next several days and I used the lemons for my tea!
Funny story about the grapefruit. I have never been a fan of it, I tried it when I was a kid and did not like it. In fact, a strong memory from my childhood was taking a trip across Nebraska with my grandparents. If you have never driven across Nebraska, let’s just say it is not the most exciting state to drive through! Plus with Grandpa driving it took way longer than normal and lots of extra bathroom breaks! Ha!
They had cookies for snacks and my sisters and I ate those up! Of course after that we were all thirsty but all there was to drink was grapefruit juice!! Ugh!! 🙁 Since then, I had not tried it again. Fast forward to this tablescape. Our number 3 son asked for some of the grapefruit and I, in disbelief, asked, “You LIKE it?” He said, “Yes!” Evidently when his grandparents were watching him while we were out of town, they had grapefruit together…and he LOVED it! Circle of life… LOL
I decided since he was eating it that I should stop being such a baby and try it again. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is really good with a little sugar on top! In fact, between him and I, we finished off all the grapefruit and I will be buying more in the future. Our oldest and youngest sons however were not of the same mind frame. They didn’t like it. 😉
Along with using the grapefruit as place settings, I wanted to bring in some of the same colors of the flowers to the plates. I came up with this idea to make some floral bowl wreaths. They would be similar to the floral crowns you make to wear on your head, only they would go around the bowls to dress them up.
I bought some faux flowers at Hobby Lobby and made small wreaths. Aren’t they super cute? You could do this with fresh flowers as well! They would be just gorgeous but wouldn’t last very long. In the end, that is why I chose to go with faux flowers for this. Here is the tutorial if you want to make your own!
Since there was so much color going on with the flowers and fruit, I wanted to use some neutral color chargers and table runner. I made these DIY rope chargers last summer. They were a fun and easy project and work great for different tablescapes. You can also see them in action on my coastal tablescape. I found the table runner at Target and just layered it on top of a drop cloth runner.
Lastly I needed some napkins to finish off the table and decided to make some instead of buying them. Cloth napkins can get really expensive and they are such an EASY diy project. I made six cloth napkins with floral trim for about $12. Not too bad! Plus this way I got to choose the fabric color! 🙂 Check out the tutorial to make your own.
They are so pretty and feminine! Between the color and the floral trim, I think they fit in with the spring theme perfectly!
I debated on whether to put them on the plates or in the glasses. However, I wanted the floral bowl wreaths to be the star of the show on the plates so the glasses won out. It is funny, I don’t see a lot of tablescapes with napkins in the glasses, is this an outdated thing? Maybe I am just not “hip” enough. 😉 I think they look lovely in the glasses though! What do you think?
We did take a couple pictures with the napkins on the plates too just to get a feel of how they looked. So I thought I would still share those with you.
Oh and by the way, I decided to go ahead and do the soft colored Easter table as well! 🙂 Make sure you stop by to see some of the other tablescapes below. Lots of good inspiration there!!
Have a wonderful day!

I love the fresh citrus fruit on your center piece! The colors are pretty . The floral rings on the plates are the star of the show! Such a fun idea and they are really pretty for spring! I too considered multiple options for napkin placement. I snapped multiple pictures and sent them to my daughter’s for their opinions. I love that you made your own! I like them in the glasses because it’s so fun!
Thanks so much Shirley! I think the napkins in the glasses are fun too! Gotta mix it up a little, right? 😉

Thanks Denise!
Such a beautiful tablescape! I love tulips and those colors are gorgeous. I’m like you and never really buy fresh flowers (mostly because my cats eat them!) but I could see some of these tulips on my table.
On no! That would be really frustrating to spend the money on flowers only to have them eaten by your cats! LOL Thanks Amanda! 🙂
Love the citrus theme and the pops of color. Perfect for spring!
Thanks Jenn! 🙂
