This cottagecore decor with shades of olive green and mustard yellow is perfect for fall. The bold colors and mushroom accents lend to a fun trendy cottagecore vibe.
Hey y’all! I feel like I have been a little behind the eight ball lately with my posts but I couldn’t let this season slip by entirely without sharing my fall cottagecore decor. I have had this decor up for a while but I haven’t gotten around to sharing it yet! It’s about time I do, as I will be starting to transition to Christmas decor soon. Wow! Where does the time go?
Have you started decorating for Christmas yet, or do you wait until Thanksgiving is over? I know there are mixed feelings on this one out there. I don’t have strong feelings on it either way, for us it is mainly dependent on what is going on with our lives at that time.
Cottagecore decor in the living room
So I am sure some of you may be wondering, what the heck is cottagecore? It is a design style in both home decor and fashion that embraces a mix of patterns, textures, oversized pieces, warm woods and bold colors. Cottagecore harkens to a more simpler time with handmade items and a slower pace. It also incorporates aspects of nature including florals or other botanicals like mushrooms.
I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to decorate with some cute mushrooms. I must be on a mushroom kick lately, as I have bought some shirts with mushrooms on them too! Ha! I found these concrete looking mushrooms at Target this year and they cemented the mushroom plan. Pun intended! π
I found the cute fairy house at Hobby Lobby. I thought it fit in quite well with the mushrooms and cottagecore vibe.
DIY mushroom wall decor
To go along with the mushroom theme, I designed my own mushroom wall decor. If you follow along with my blog regularly, then you know that I like to reuse decor items as much as possible. I am not one to go out and buy everything brand new for each season. Number one, that is just impractical for lots of reasons and number two, I love being creative in coming up with ways to reuse what I already have. I hope this in turn inspires you to do the same.
Behind the magnolia wreath, I arranged this mushroom wall decor out of old fan blades! When we moved into our house, the fan in this room had these palm fan blades on them and I was not a FAN of them. LOL However, I thought to keep them around because I knew I could probably decorate with them somehow… someday… π I thought the shape of them resembled mushroom tops so I used them as a backdrop for the wreath. What do you think? Can you see it too?
Olive green and mustard yellow fall decor
The wreath also worked perfectly for my color combination of olive green and mustard yellow. I found these soft olive green velvet pumpkins at Hobby Lobby and love the look of them. I placed one on my mantel next to some candle holders.
I used another one on the couch as an accent to my pillows. π
I also found these perfect fall stems at Hobby Lobby to fit in with the color scheme as well.
On the other side of the mantel, I used a olive green vase that I have had for lots of years, with some dried floral stems.
Next to the vase are some books with a DIY fabric pumpkin that I made several years ago. These were fun and easy to make! Check out the post to see how to make your own!
DIY Mushroom Garland
My most recent project has been this adorable fabric mushroom garland. This one was a doozy to figure out how to make these fabric mushrooms, but after I got them figured out, they came along pretty easily and I think they turned out great! I will be sharing the tutorial for these cute little mushrooms soon.
The cool thing about these fabric mushrooms is that they are totally customizable depending on the fabric you use. You can match them to any decor! Instead of a garland, you could make them into Christmas ornaments using red and green fabric for the tops! How cute would that be!?
I used other olive green and mustard yellow elements around the room to coordinate with my color scheme.
I added some other faux mushrooms to my DIY sugar mold. The Spanish moss makes them look more realistic, don’t you think?
Now, I know that all looks great, but here is the cutest decoration in the whole room, in my opinion. π This is one of our kitties, Elsa. Our other cat is Anna, of course. Elsa likes to hang around when I am decorating, but luckily she coordinates nicely with the decor, huh?
I will be back soon to show you all how to make those fabric mushrooms. Until then, I will be busy planning my Christmas decor. Ho Ho Ho! π
Bonnie says
Way to early for Christmas decorating, here. Everyone skips Thanksgiving decorating, so until December 1st itβll be up. Love your color combination!
Thanks Bonnie! I agree, everyone moves onto Christmas way too fast! Oh well, to each their own I guess. Have a happy Thanksgiving! π
Happy Thanksgiving to you, also, Kimberly.
