We are getting ready to head back to our hometown to visit family for Easter and our kids are getting more excited. Of course they love to see their cousins and grandparents, but they also look forward to participating in two fun Easter egg hunts on both sides of the family. Naturally the older kids get, the less appeal Easter egg hunts hold. However, I am going to share with you a fun way to keep older kids, as well as the young ones (with help), interested. My mom and stepdad (aka Grandma and Grandpa on the clues) have put on a Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt for our kids for many years. It is one that our kids have always looked forward to doing, even in their teens. 🙂
The concept is easy, you put clues into plastic eggs and the kids have to figure out where the eggs are hidden based on the clues. The last clue brings them to their Easter basket from G’ma & G’pa. The eggs are numbered with a sharpie along with each kid’s name as well so they don’t accidentally find someone else’s egg. One tip to remember though is that each kid gets a “starter” egg that has the first clue in it. Otherwise it can get a little confusing! One year we got the hunt all ready and discovered the clues were in all the wrong eggs!! They were all off by one. That took some time to fix. 🙂
Some of these clues are very specific to my mom’s house but they could be easily changed to fit into your own house. You can use these as ideas to go from. The hard part is done..thinking of all the rhymes! I don’t know how my mom does it, evidently I didn’t inherit that skill from her. LOL. The younger kids will obviously need some help with their clues but they still enjoy finding the eggs! The clues get progressively harder as the kids get older.
Here are the printable clues for all the different ages:
