Easter Mantel Decor

by Kimberly Leave a Comment

Decorate for the holiday with this lovely Easter mantel decor in pretty pastel colors with hanging paper wisteria flowers. The doilies and Easter fabric in the embroidery hoops give the mantel a nice delicate and vintage flair.

Hippity, hoppity, Easter’s on it’s way! Can you believe it? It feels like we just started 2022, and we are now pulling up hard on April! With that being the case, I got my decorating on and put together this fun Easter mantel decor.

I have not done many Easter mantels in the past, so I was excited to decorate for Easter this year. In addition, I rarely decorate in pastel colors. Maybe it is part of being a boy Mom! Where are my fellow boy moms at? You know what I am talking about. Surrounded by all this testosterone makes me want to be a little girly sometimes! πŸ˜‰

I love the soft, feminine feel to this mantel. I think the colors mixed with the delicate doilies help to achieve that.

Primitive Easter Decor

The doilies also help to give the mantel a vintage feel or even edge on primitive Easter decor. Primitive style is known for it’s use of rough homespun textures with an authentic early American handmade look. Some would call it a folk art style or country decor. I usually lean more towards modern farmhouse decor, but I can see how this mantel would appeal to primitive decor as well.

I want to let everyone know that no doilies were harmed in the decorating of this mantel! Ha! These doilies were all given to us as gifts or heirlooms and I didn’t have the heart to cut the doilies up. I know how much time and caring went into to making them. So I just tucked the extra doily into the back of the embroidery hoops. With one of them that was larger, I even used some thread to cinch together the extra doily in the back, as you can see in the picture above. However, when you back out, you can’t tell. πŸ™‚

On others, I just let the extra hang out the edges! I think both ways look cute! I love the look of the doilies in the embroidery hoops, and I think a collection of these would also work as lovely wall decor. If you don’t have any, just head to the thrift store to find some doilies and give them new life! Or you can check out the link at the bottom of this post.

Cut up an Easter tablecloth

I am willing to cut up an $8 Easter tablecloth though. LOL That is exactly what I did to frame these adorable bunnies in the embroidery hoops.

I love the combined look of the bunny fabric in the embroidery hoops mixed with the doilies on the pallet board backdrop.

I found the tablecloth at Ross Dress for Less and knew I wanted to make pillows out of it. The pattern has such a soft and subtle artistic look to it, and I was drawn to the fabric. Little did I know then it would inspire the whole mantel. πŸ™‚ Sometimes it just takes one thing to spark your imagination and creativity, right?

Easter Mantel Decor

The pastel colors for the mantel were pulled from the Easter fabric so I used some other coordinating Easter decorations that I already had to complete the look. I usually lean into my thrifty side and I do not buy a lot of new decor each holiday. Even though I don’t have links to new decor you can buy today, I hope that you can gain some inspiration by using similar items even if it is not the same exact items. I will add some links to similar items at the bottom of this post for help if you need it. πŸ˜‰

I got this Easter bunny at Hobby Lobby several years ago, but I believe they actually still carry them there. They are usually with the Easter holiday decor every year.

I am not sure where the little blue bird came from but I have had him around for a while. He was perfect to use to pull in the blue color on the mantel.

The candlesticks on each side are staples in my decorating as I use them all the time. They came from Hobby lobby and Kirklands.

I never got into the Rae Dunn trend, but I did end up with this Rae Dunn Easter jar somewhere along the way. It works wonderfully to hold some pastel colored Easter eggs that tie into the colors of the mantel. These DIY painted speckled eggs are ones that I painted a couple years ago.

Easy Easter carrot garland

I found these cute burlap carrots on the Target dollar spot last year but did not even get a chance to use them since we moved in March! I had actually forgotten about them until I was going through my Easter decorations. Ha! Luckily they were the right colors and easy to make into a garland.

I doubled up on some wood bead garlands and tied the carrots to one of the garlands using twine. Easy peasy! Just try to space the carrots out equally.

Hanging wisteria flowers

Now we come to my favorite part of the whole mantel! I wanted to add some hanging, droopy type flowers, similar to wisteria, to the top of the mantel. When visiting California one year, I fell in love with wisteria. Living in the Midwest, we did not have it there. It is so pretty and I love the cascading look it has.

I found some Spanish Moss greenery at Hobby Lobby that would work great for the backdrop to the flowers! But I did not find some flowers that I liked. So I thought, maybe I can make some!

I have always wanted to make some crepe paper flowers and I thought this may be a way to do that. I found some tutorials for crepe paper wisteria but they all involved using a cutting machine like a Cricut and I wanted to avoid that. Wanting it to be a craft that everyone can make, I looked for a simpler solution.

I came across a photo of a paper wisteria tree in a Anthropologie store and knew I could recreate the flowers that way. This was not my brainchild but I did not see a great tutorial on it so I thought I would make one. Here is the tutorial on how to make paper wisteria! The best thing is that these are made with inexpensive paper streamers!

I took some liberties with the colors, I know that wisteria in nature is usually found in purples, whites and pinks. But I thought it would be fun to have it match my colors for the mantel. Plus, when you are making it, you can do it anyway you want! πŸ˜‰
