This dining room has simple touches of modern farmhouse valentine decor making it a great way to mix a little rustic with elegance for the holiday.
Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day? I imagine if you are reading this, probably yes. Ha! I know there are a lot of people that don’t decorate for Valentine’s Day, but I like to add in a little bit of decor here or there around the house to make it more festive. This year I decorated in the dining room with a little farmhouse Valentine decor. Besides, the house always seems so bare after taking the Christmas decorations down so decorating for this holiday is a nice way to fill that void as well. 🙂
I read an article recently that farmhouse decor is going out of style. I’m not so sure about that. While some facets of it may go out of style, I think there are a lot of farmhouse decor trends that will remain in style for a long time. It has already trended toward modern farmhouse decor, which essentially is a style that combines the old with the new. While the name may morph to cottage core or granny chic, I think it is all basically the same thing. 🙂
A farmhouse valentine centerpiece
Combining some rustic accents with more sophisticated accents gives you a modern farmhouse look. Using antiques in your decorating is a great way to achieve this look. Like this antique replica, our DIY sugar mold. I used it here as a centerpiece to show off these adorable felt standing hearts.
You may remember that I shared these DIY standing hearts last week. Now you get to see how I am decorating with them. Don’t they look great?
I loved my DIY felt Christmas trees in my brown and bronze Christmas decor so much that I recreated the look for Valentine’s Day. Why change something if it works?
Valentine’s Day Buffet table
I usually like to coordinate the buffet table (aka Lego storage cabinet) with my dining room table decor and this time is no different. It makes the room feel more cohesive, don’t you think?
This was achieved by carrying the same colors and felt theme onto the buffet table while adding in a couple other elements as well. Sticking with the modern farmhouse valentine decor, I brought in more modern accents.
The gold candlesticks, mirror and lantern lean more towards the modern side while the buffet table with curtains, grapevine accents and wood signs lean more towards the farmhouse side.
I added a grapevine wreath with some coordinating hearts as a wreath accessory. You may be asking, what’s a wreath accessory? Well, it’s something I just recently thought up! LOL I will be sharing a post with you next week telling you all about it and showing you how easily you can switch your wreath decor for different seasons without having to buy a new wreath! Stay tuned for that!
I also added some more coordinating felt hearts in the antique gold lantern.
I made these in the same way as the wreath accessory, I just put them going the opposite direction. Don’t they look great in there?
Obviously the candle is a faux one, I don’t think it would be very smart to put these felt hearts in with a real candle. Just a fair warning. 😉 I added more 3D standing (and sitting) hearts around the buffet table too!
Make your own Valentine’s Day art
Did you notice that awesome XOXO art piece on the buffet table too? Not to toot my own horn but yeah, I made that! Toot toot!! 🙂
It was so easy to make! I found the XO grapevine wreaths at Target on their dollar spot. So I bought three of them knowing I wanted to make them into a piece of art.
I used a farmhouse sign I already had and cut and attached some white poster board to it. Then I just removed the twine hanger and hot glued the XO wreaths on. Easy peasy! I love how it has a nice 3D look to it and totally coordinates with the rest of the decor.
I found this super cute I love you sign at Target too!
Modern Farmhouse Valentine Decor
I also added a cute Valentine’s Day basket and some coordinating pillows on the window seat. The pink hearts and flowers are recurring decor pieces around here. You may have seen them before on my Pink and Gray Valentine mantel. Loved that one!
So what are you thoughts? Is farmhouse decor going out of style? I gotta tell you even if it is, I don’t care! LOL I like it and that is all that matters. Don’t worry about the trends, decorate with what you like and makes you happy. I feel like if you are always following trends, you will always be unsatisfied. Just my two cents, for what it’s worth. ;). I will be back next week with the wreath accessories. Chat soon!
