It is crazy to say that we are having a blizzard in April, but yet again this year, we are! We had just gotten rid of all the snow from Winter and now this! Are you all affected by the blizzard as well? Schools and many businesses were closed today so we had a snow day. Actually I am kinda thankful because it gave me some extra time to get this finger knitted bunny craft done that I have had on my mind for a while.
Mr. Wonderful and I have been working hard on some home renovations lately so I have not done any crafting or decorating in a while! Or blogging for that matter. Sorry it has been so quiet around here! It felt really good today to be able to get back to it all. 🙂
This adorable bunny was something that I thought up back when I did a couple other finger knitting projects and knew it would be super cute. It does not disappoint! If you do not know how to finger knit, check out this finger knitted pumpkin post. It has a great tutorial and video showing you how to do it.

For this project you will need:
- Bunny Template
- Thick Yarn (1 skein)
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Scissors
I started with this wooden bunny template that I got at Hobby Lobby. You could always DIY one by cutting a bunny shape out of cardboard, but this template was very reasonably priced so I did not want to bother with that. I found this yarn at a thrift store a while ago and have kept it around knowing I would use it on a project someday. I thought it was the perfect color for this bunny.
Before I started, I had to remove the little bunny tail. It was just hot glued on so it was easy to remove. Originally I was just going to use a yarn pom pom for a tail, but I liked how this one looked in the end.
Finger knit (video tutorial here) about half the length of the skein. I ended up using about 1/2 to 3/4 of the skein for this project.
Now you just have to glue down the yarn onto the bunny template. I started on one of the “V” junctions above the feet, this way I would not have to cross over my first row of yarn with my second. Keep gluing following closely along the edge of the bunny. Make sure you follow the curves and bends so you don’t lose the shape of the bunny outline.
When you come to a corner, it is easier to glue the yarn down a little past the corner, so you can make a sharp turn with the yarn. This helps your corners look crisper.
Thanks to a suggestion from Mr. W, I left the ears until the end, and I really like how this turned out. It makes the ears stand out more. So for now just follow around the head like the picture below.
Continue filling in the inside of the bunny with yarn. You will end up with couple places in the center of the body and head that will have to be filled in with smaller pieces. You can see how I did that below when I filled in the ears.
Measure out the amount needed of your finger knitted yarn for the outline of the ear. You can make a cut in one strand of the yarn string to unravel the knitted portion. Just stick the cut end through the open loop and pull tight to close it off again. You can make smaller pieces of the knitting to fill in the ear this way as well.
Make sure to cut off any tails of the yarn before gluing the ends down so you don’t have extra unnecessary bulk.
Now just glue the tail back on and you are done! Simple and darling! This project only took me about 1.5 hours to complete and it was so easy, anyone could do it.
I left the string that was attached to the bunny in case I want to hang it up in the future. I could see this being used in many ways! You could hang it on your front door, on top of a wreath or by itself. It would also look super cute leaning against the wall in a cute vignette.
You can see a little bit of the template from the side, but that does not bother me at all. I really love the variation of colors in this yarn. It works so well for this project because it almost resembles fur.
Hopefully soon I will find some time to decorate a little more for spring. Even though it is not feeling very springy right now! 😉 However I WILL be sharing some home renovation posts soon so stay tuned for those! Have a wonderful day!

Thanks Jenny!! I love how he turned out too. 🙂
Hiya Jenny, I simply LOVE and ADORE that ALL of Your Amazing Craft Ideas are so versatile. And, CAN be shared and enjoyed with Children of all ages. Under supervision, if Hot Glue Guns and Sharp Scissors are involved naturally. This in turn encourages creativity and an excitement for each new Season and all the Holiday’s inbetween. Bunny Wreaths with the older students at the Elementary School where I will be sharing these sweet and easy to create Bunny Wreaths tomorrow with Co-Workers. They can then send out Class Emails for those Self motivated Crafty individuals to premake the Finger Knitting portion. Ironically some of the students were having a competition of their Own to see who could create the nicest and longest Finger Knitting strand. A number of them asked to be measured before shutting down for the Break and they were already 14 to 18 feet long. That was just 2 days of knitting by the Students. Coinsidentally this was going to be executed by these Students during Spring Break! Wow, a meant to be classroom project just in time for Easter. If they create mini Bunnies there will definitely be enough for the entire Class.
I know I have My list of Craft Supplies to pick up ready for tomorrow, so looking forward to figuring out how to turn a simple circular wire Wreath into one with Ears. Living on an Island in Canada definitely makes purchasing the Bunny Wreath Frame online expensive. Especially when the Shipping Charge is equal to if not more than double the cost of the actual Item as it turned out here, more than double the $17.99 USD for the Bunny Wreath, depending on size and weight. It would be about $48.00 CDN to order it, according to the links onYour site. Our Dollar Stores do not carry all the awesome Products the USA Dollar Stores sell unfortunately. And, Our Stores never know what they are going to recieve with each Shipment. They do not have the luxury of Ordering whatever they want. Head Office, back East makes ALL those decisions, and again due to Shipping Costs being so high We lose out. I did only pay $1.25 CDN plus tax for the three tiered Circular Wreath there though.
I am hoping to use an old wire hanger and Tack Weld them on. I might even lean into the already pointed ends. Oh what fun!! Or, if that fails maybe Floppy Ears for this Years Wreath.. Removable?! Making it a truly versatile Wreath not just for Easter anymore…
We do not have Hobby Lobby out here in BC either and Michaels is astronomical nowadays. So much has changed post Covid 19.
Anyway, I LOVE seeing a new Message/Post from You in My Inbox. All kinds of Wonderful Thoughts come to mind every time. I hope You and Your Family are over the moon with all the Renovations and that life can slip back into a new kind of normal. One where the Honey Do List is complete. Thus freeing Your Beautiful Mind up for the important things in Life like the Joys of Sharing and Educating through Crafting, Creating, and Inspiring tens of thousands of Followers who also enjoy Your out of the box thinking.
Blessings now and always,
Michelle
PS Always remember, Somebunny(ies) LOVES YOU.
Hi Michelle! Awww… thank you so much for your kind words! That is wonderful, I love hearing that you are doing these crafts with school children! Good luck on your Easter bunny wire wreath, it is too bad you don’t have closer access to some of the stores that we do. I am sure you can do it though. Have a great week!
