I recently became obsessed acquainted with finger knitting! It is such a fun, fast and easy way to knit. There are so many possibilities of what you could do with it. My first project was a finger knitted yarn pumpkin which turned out super cute! If you don’t know how to finger knit, you will want to check out that post so you can make this wreath. I have a video in it that shows you exactly how to finger knit. Once you know how, the sky is the limit!
In addition to the pumpkin, this wreath was another idea that immediately popped into my head and I knew I would be making one for Christmas.
*There are links to products in this post that I use or are similar to products I use. If you buy something from one of these links, I may make a small commission (with no additional cost to you) from the purchase. I will not recommend anything that I would not buy myself. Thank you for supporting my blog!
For this project you will need:
- 18″ Wreath Form
- Lion Brand Hometown USA Yarn – Los Angeles Tan, 2 skeins
- Scissors
- Satin Ribbon
- Ornaments
I was lucky enough to find this wreath form at the thrift store for $2! Don’t rule out the thrift stores for your crafting! You could really use any type of wreath form for this wreath, but this willow type allowed me to not have to use hot glue. I like that in case I want to disassemble the wreath in the future and reuse the wreath form. 😉
I used the same kind of yarn as on my finger knitted pumpkin. The only difference is the color, this one is Los Angeles tan and it is a nice cream color. I used 2 skeins of yarn exactly for this wreath. Finger knit (see finger knitting video in this post) the whole length of both skeins.
Tie the beginning of one of the skeins to the wreath form then start wrapping the length around the wreath form. You can tuck the extra loose end into the wreath.
When you get to the end of your first skein, just tie it to the next skein. Again tuck any loose ends into the wreath.
Tie the end to the wreath form and tuck the loose end under the finger knitted yarn. This wreath was super easy to assemble and I love that I did not even need to use glue!
You can’t even tell where you started or ended! Adjust the thread if needed to cover any open areas on the wreath.
To attach the ornaments to the wreath, I put some tape on the end of a piece of yarn to string the yarn through the ornaments.
String the ornaments onto the yarn. Leave some space in between the ornaments. When you hold the yarn up level, the sides of the ornaments should just touch.
Bring both ends of the yarn together and tie a knot right above the ornaments. Then tie the ends around the wreath form and cut the extra yarn above the knot. Adjust the finger knitted yarn to cover this string.
Take a long piece of satin ribbon and string it under one of the branches of the wreath form. Use this ribbon to hang the wreath. Tie a pretty bow at the top and cut the ends of the ribbon to the desired length.
You can use whatever color ornaments and ribbon that you want to. I used these blue and red ornaments to go with my new blue front door. I LOVE the way the cream wreath looks against the door with the pops of red!
The rest of my front porch will be decorated for Christmas to match with this wreath. It is such a festive and fun color combo!
We are spacing our posts out a little more this year so instead of daily, I will be back in a couple days for the 2nd day of Christmas post. This will help all of us bloggers stay sane! Make sure to check all the other wreaths below!

Thanks Jenny! Finger knitting is actually way easier and quicker than regular knitting, that is why I like it. Ha! 🙂
I really like this wreath, it is so warm and cozy looking.
Thanks Debra! It is really soft yarn, I could only imagine how cozy a blanket would be made from it. 🙂
So cool! I did a few finger knitting and arm knitting things but always go back to regular knitting and crocheting. I made ornaments using chains I crocheted to give a knit look. I love this. #12DaysofChristmas2018
Thanks Emily! Gotta do what you love! 😉 The crocheted ornaments sound like a really cute idea!
Finger knitting seems to be all the rage right now and this is just too cool!
How did you make the chain? I do not knit nor sew and would like more specific directions how you made the knitted chain please. Thank you.
Hi Heidi! There is a link in this post to my finger knitted pumpkin post which includes a video with verbal instructions. Here it is: https://awonderfulthought.com/finger-knitted-yarn-pumpkin/ That should help you out! 🙂
