Hey guys! Have you started decorating for Christmas yet? It seems like a lot of the blogosphere has moved on already but I still have a couple more fall posts to share with you before we get to Christmas stuff. π Today I am finishing up my 3 part pumpkin tutorial with this finger knitted yarn pumpkin. In part 1 we tackled fabric pumpkins and part 2 was all about how to paint pumpkins. I have to say, of all the pumpkins I decorated this fall, this one yarn pumpkin is my favorite!!
For this project you will need:
- A white faux pumpkin – I got mine at Walmart
- Lion Brand Hometown USA Yarn – Aspen Tweed
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
I love the texture and coziness that the yarn gives the pumpkin, donβt you? This is the best yarn, I have used it on some previous projects and it is soooooo soft!
How to make a finger knitted yarn pumpkin
This yarn pumpkin looks more difficult to make than it was, in fact it was really easy to make. However, I figured it would be easier to show you how to make it instead of trying to explain it with pictures and words. So I made a video showing you how to make a finger knitted yarn pumpkin. If you can’t see a video turn off your ad blocker. π
Here are some more pictures of the finished product. I was very happy with how the yarn pumpkin turned out especially since this was my own brainchild. That made it a little more difficult because I had to figure it out as I went along!
This finger knitting technique is so easy even kids can do it. It was actually a kid’s craft video where I originally saw the technique. This would be a fun project to work on with your kids!
Also, finger knitting can be used for so many things. In fact, I have a finger knitted Christmas wreath coming up soon that I am using it on too. Check it out as well!

This pumpkin turned out so awesome!
Thanks so much Alexandra! π
So excited to try this. How much yarn is needed per pumpkin. (Size as shown.) Want to make sure I order enough. Since ww will be doing this as our Thankgiving Day craft. (Up to 12 people making)
Thanks
Hi Tami! Hmmm… I am going on memory here as I made this project a couple of years ago. I believe I used close to one skein of yarn for the pumpkin. If more than one skein was needed, I would have noted that in the supplies. Good luck on your crafting day! π
