This simple green hydrangea and pear tablescape is perfect for late summer when the flowers turn a lovely shade of pale green. Add some pretty blue and white plates for a beautiful color combination.
Can you believe summer is almost over? It sure is going by fast! So today I wanted to share a late summer green hydrangea tablescape before the summer is gone and we all move on to fall decorating.
To be honest this tablescape is a little bittersweet. It is a tablescape that I decorated last summer right before we moved out of our house that we sold after living there for 15 years. I do miss our house at times, but that is not the biggest factor here.
It is seeing these beautiful big hydrangeas that makes me just a tad bit sad. I love hydrangeas and had always wanted to have hydrangea flowers in our yard. We finally got around to taking out the ugly juniper bushes in our front yard and planted some Annabelle hydrangea bushes. Unfortunately I only got two summers to enjoy them! And during the first summer, the blooms were really small!
Aren’t these flowers gorgeous! I love how they turn from a white to this pale green at the end of the season. That is one of the reasons I decorated this table setting with the green hydrangeas, to enjoy the flowers inside and so I would always have these pictures to look back on. Because now we live in a region where hydrangeas do not grow. π
But before you start feeling really bad for me, on the flip side, we now live in a region where there are way more flowers and vegetation than I could even imagine. I am seeing new flowers all the time and they grow year round down here! So I think the trade-off is definitely worth it. π
Decorating a green hydrangea and pear tablescape
Let’s get to the reason you came here in the first place… the tablescape! The other reason for decorating this pretty tablescape was that I borrowed these fantastic blue and white vintage plates from a friend (thanks Betsy!) and I wanted to style a table setting with them. I have previously borrowed other plates from her that you can see on this soft and lovely Easter tablescape and this lemon summer tablescape.
I knew the green hydrangeas would look fabulous with the blue and white plates, but I needed to add some more green. So I paired the hydrangeas with some green pears. (Pun intended!)
I already had some pale green napkins so this tablescape came together very quickly and simply. But really shouldn’t table settings be that way anyway? Who wants to remove a bunch of items before you have to eat? Remind me I said that next time I decorate a super involved tablescape. LOL
I just added some of my standby white chargers and dinner plates. Honestly, you don’t need lots of different dish sets to decorate tablescapes. I feel like white plates are classic and go with anything. Are other plates beautiful, like these blue and white ones? Of course they are, but who has the budget and room to store them all? I guess that is just the practical side of me talking. If I had an unlimited budget and a huge storage room I would probably feel differently. Ha! Alas, that is why I borrow some from a friend. π
I added my vintage glasses that I found at a thrift store. They originally needed to be cleaned up a bit, but they are so pretty now. The reason I bought them in the first place was because they reminded me of some that my grandma had when I was young. I was informed by a reader the last time I used them that they are Fostoria glasses in the American pattern if anyone if interested in getting some. Don’t you just love how they reflect the colors of everything around them?

What do you think of this color combination of the blue, white and green? Really, there were lots of ways I could have gone with these plates. They lend themselves to all sorts of color combinations. But since I wanted to use my green hydrangea flowers, the colors were already set.
Since there were only four of the blue and white plates, I decided to set our smaller kitchen table with them. Honestly, I love the quaintness of it. This would be a perfect tablescape for a small gathering or a late summer brunch.
The great thing about using the pears as place holders is that you can eat them with your meal! Fruit is always a great option for table settings, you can’t get any simpler than that.
