Are you looking for some simple and classy Halloween decor ideas? This easy spooky Halloween tablescape and dining room decor is sure to get you into the Halloween spirit for your next get together with friends or family.
I know Halloween is a holiday that some people do not decorate for, but with four boys growing up around our house, it was always a fun holiday. They loved the Halloween decorations and I like to decorate for it as well, as evidence by this Halloween tablescape and dining room decor. To be honest though, I am not sure how much I will be decorating for Halloween as the years go by. The boys are getting older, as they do, and we don’t do trick or treating anymore, which is a little sad. So it is kind of nice to hold onto a little bit of the Halloween spookiness with the decorating for a little longer. π
Simple Halloween Tablescape
This is my first time decorating a Halloween tablescape. I have mostly decorated my mantel for Halloween, but I have decorated that for fall this year, which I will be sharing with you soon. So that left this dining room area open as prime real estate to use. Ha!
I kept this Halloween tablespace pretty low key, as I did not want to decorate it too elaborately. We still use this dining room table daily, so I wanted a centerpiece that would be easy enough to move when we needed to. It would be great if we had a table that I could just decorate and leave be for the season, but unfortunately that is not the case here. LOL!
The main focal point of the centerpiece is this skull in the glass cloche. I have used this guy LOTS of times in my Halloween decorating but it is such a staple Halloween decor piece that I can’t not use him, right!? I think maybe I need to name him as much as he makes an appearance, he is almost part of the family now. π Let me know if you have any ideas for names…
Going along with the big skull, name tbd, I added some small skulls in a vase with some Spanish moss. Spanish moss is always a nice touch in Halloween decorations, there is something about it that just looks creepy, don’t you think?
I wanted my Halloween decorations to look classy so I opted for a vintage feel with some contrasting colors. The black, white and cream color scheme with pops of orange mixed with some antique elements help to achieve that elegant “vintagey” look. I added some distressed books on the table and an old crock filled with spiders to go along with the antique Halloween theme.
Lastly, I added some black and cream plates with layered chargers. You may have noticed the cute bat napkins on top! These were really easy to fold. I don’t have a video, but if you google “how to fold bat napkins”, you will come up with lots of tutorials.

Halloween dining room decor
The bat napkins tie into the bats on the wall and the bats in the branches on the buffet table. These are bats that I made YEARS ago for a Halloween party and wanted to use them again. This was the perfect reason to dig them out! At the time, we just printed out a bat template that we found online and cut them out of black poster board. Mr. Wonderful helped me to hang them on the wall with command strips. I love the way they look like they are flying away. Their wings actually flap if they get some air hitting them. You can make some the same way we did, or you could just buy some like these.
I knew I wanted to use some branches in my decor, but we didn’t have any big enough in our own yard, so I had Mr. Wonderful help me hunt down some branches that I could use. We came across some piles of branches someone had recently cut down on the side of the road and helped ourselves. I love some free decorations, don’t you? π The dead branches with the bats aid in adding spookiness to the Halloween decor. They also bring height to each side of the buffet table which helps with our high ceilings. I am finding I need a lot BIGGER decorations now that we have taller ceilings. Otherwise, things seem way too small.
On the buffet table, I added some spooky gauze cloth on the mirror to give it a creepy vibe. This also tied into the black gauze on the table runner. I have had a lot of these decorations for a long time that I have picked up over the years, but I will add similar links at the bottom of this post so you can recreate any of these looks if you want to.
In front of the mirror, I added this Halloween chalkboard. I made this several years ago, but I was able to keep it because Mr. Wonderful made me a great storage box to keep all my chalkboards in. That is great, because they take a while to make one. Check out this post on how to make a chalkboard if you want to make one for yourself!
I found these cute little ghost cloches on the Target dollar spot this year. They may still have some there, but it seems like ours always runs out of things. If I don’t get it right when I see it the first time, it is gone forever!! Does that happen at your Targets as well? I added some Poly-fil stuffing to the inside to make them look white.
I found this Olde Salem Broom Co sign last year as Ross Dress for Less. Another place where if you see it, grab it right away!
Halloween buffet table decor
The rest of the buffet table decor consists of some repeating elements from my Halloween tablescape like more skulls, vintage books and spiders. I used a grapevine wreath with some black and orange spiders on it. The plain wreath pairs well with the branches.
These orange velvet pumpkins are gorgeous in real life! Not that they don’t look great in the pictures too though! I found them at Hobby Lobby this year. I love how the color changes on them from deep orange to a brighter orange at the top. They allowed me to use several shades of orange in my Halloween decor. I added some little critters like rats and black birds to round out the spooky feeling.
In the corner, I added our DIY dough bowl with another giant spider hanging off it. Along with some other vintage items are these DIY witch brooms in an olive bucket.
I had some left over branches so I decided to make some fun brooms out of them. I will be sharing the tutorial for the brooms soon. They were so easy and fun to make and are a great staple Halloween decoration!

Halloween window seat decor
The last area of the dining room that I like to decorate is our window seat. This area is always hard to photograph because of all the light coming in the window.
I added some coordinating pillows, of course! Y’all know how I love my pillow covers! Next to them are more books and a pumpkin on top. If you are wondering about the holes in the pumpkin, we had drilled holes in it years ago to add some lights. It did look cool, but I actually like it better without the lights. I think the holes in it look neat all by themselves.
I also used my three tier tray but I cheated this year and decorated it the same as last year. Ha! Shhhh!! Don’t tell anyone, it will be our secret. π
Really though, I figured that it was so cute then, why not reuse it since it wasn’t a huge focal piece anyway. No shame in reusing your decor, I do it all the time, as evidence by the skull who shall not be named is not named yet, on the table!
Also, as seen by this cute DIY pottery barn ghost pillow that I shared with you last year. I was recently tagged in an Instagram post where someone made a really cute one of these. I LOVE seeing the projects that you all have made from my tutorials. It is such a joy when you share them, so feel free to anytime! π
I hope you liked my Halloween tablescape and dining room decor. I will be back soon with the witch broom tutorial. Chat soon!
