When life gives you lemons, style them! Add some cheerfulness to your living area with this lemon summer sideboard styling.
I wanted to add some touches of summer décor in our house so I styled the top of our murphy bed recently with some lemons. I am not sure if lemons are technically summer décor but they always remind me of summer. Also, I realize most people don’t have murphy beds to style, so for the sake of ease, we are going to pretend and call this a sideboard. Ha! Here is my lemon summer sideboard! 😉
You could easily recreate this look on any sideboard or buffet. Really even a hall table would work, if that is what you have to decorate.
I found this sign on clearance recently at Hobby Lobby. They are having a big sale on a lot of their home décor stuff including wall art.
I also got some smaller signs that I upcycled. I will share that tutorial with you later this week! However you get to see one of them here in this display early.
I love the look of layering in decorating, so I used an old window as a backdrop and layered the sign on that. In addition, I also added the smaller upcycled sign. Layering helps to add some visual interest and depth to your décor so make sure you use layers in your displays!
I also got this three tiered tray and some of the accent pieces at Hobby Lobby. I made an Instagram reel on me styling the tray. Check it out! 🙂 And while you are there, don’t forget to follow me on Instagram to see more fun reels and behind the scenes stuff.
Isn’t it so cute? Have you gotten on the tray trend yet? This is my second three tiered tray but the first tray is not as décor friendly as this one. I love it! This is a tray that I foresee decorating a lot in the future.
I love trays in that they are a great way to add some seasonal touches but they don’t take up a lot of real estate.
On the other side of the “sideboard” ;), I added this big vase with some faux stems in it to match the height of the tray. I felt like the cotton stems needed some greenery as well so I added some tropical leaves for summer.
This little lemon sign and the one on the tray were some more of my clearance finds. They fit into my lemon theme perfectly though, so there was no need to change them.
To coordinate with the lemon theme, I added some lemons to a trifle bowl.
To balance out the glass bowl on that side, I added this glass bottle to the other side of the frames.
I think my favorite part of the whole display is the turned over sugar mold. When I first put it up there, I had the sugar mold turned upright. However, it was too tall and just looked like a block of wood. I was about to take it down and had one of those lightbulb moments where I thought, “Ooh, I could lay it on it’s side and put lemons in it!”. Needless to say, I LOVE it!
This DIY sugar mold was a project that Mr. Wonderful made for me and one that is a staple in my decorating. I love coming up with new ways on how to use it.
I have some other lemon themed posts coming up. Included in those are a fun tablescape and a yummy lemon bar recipe so keep your eyes open for the posts. In the meantime, here are some more pictures. Also catch me on Instagram to see a fun reel on the styling of this “sideboard”!

Hi Kimberly, My design style is modern/eclectic but I still appreciate other design styles and their components. I have seen many homes decorated with tiered trays to distraction, but your fresh, whimsical,'”lemony” approach with your sideboard is delightful! The design with your creative tiered tray, darling signage, the way you incorporated clear glass with a bowlful of lemons, large and small glass containers spiked with lots of greenery is as inviting as an icy glass of lemonade on a hot summer day. And…your beautiful sugar mold, turned on its side with lemons peeking out some of the holes is pure charm! Thank you for sharing your creativity.
