This classy navy Christmas decor with macrame and wood bead accents is a fun twist on the Scandinavian Christmas look. If you are missing the classic Christmas colors, throw a little red and green into the mix!
I am excited to finally be sharing my Christmas decor with you all! This year I decorated two trees! One in the living room and one in the dining room. Today I will be sharing my living room with mostly navy Christmas decor, although I threw in some red and green accents.
Since we moved to Florida this year, I was conflicted on going with a blue color scheme to go with the Florida vibes or to go with a traditional red and green color palette to feel more like Christmas. I was just a bit concerned that since we would not have snow and cold weather for Christmas that it would not feel as Christmas-y here. Just FYI… my worries were all for naught, that has not been the case AT ALL! In fact, there are so many decorated houses and businesses down here, that it has felt extra Christmas-like.
After much deliberation, I decided why not just go with all three colors? 🙂 So that is what I did!
Navy Christmas Decor
I was a little cautious to go with a blue color palette for Christmas since I am not a huge fan of decorating with the color blue, although I do love navy blue! I think it is such a classic color and dresses up any decor. I used navy, red and green colors for my overall decorating but decorated each Christmas tree focused more specifically on one color.
In the living room, I went with navy Christmas ornaments on a natural green Christmas tree. I thought the navy color would mix beautifully with the cream and wood tones of the DIY macrame Christmas ornaments and DIY wood bead ornaments I made.
Instead of putting ribbon around the this Christmas tree, I opted for a simpler look of some smaller strips of ribbon. I just tied them in half and set them on branches so it looks like they are knotted on the branch.
With all these handmade ornaments and the minimalist look, it reminds me of a Scandinavian Christmas tree. Although it is missing the color red which is commonly associated with those trees. I think it looks wonderful with the navy blue instead. What do you think?
Coordinate your Christmas tree and your mantel
I continued the macrame and wood theme with my mantel. The focus piece on the mantel is this DIY macrame wall hanging that I shared last week. As I shared in that post, I was not completely in love with this project and if I had more time, I would have probably re-worked it. LOL.
I am not sure what that says about me, I don’t fancy myself a perfectionist. However, I do have certain standards that I like my projects to have, and I felt like this one fell short. I will steal a phrase that Mr. Wonderful likes to use, he says he is not a perfectionist but he strives for excellence. Maybe he is rubbing off on me. Ha! Oh well, it still works and I am thinking of it as more of an abstract piece of art. 😉
The wood tones from the tree carry through to the mantel with the candle holders, wood bead garlands and the embroidery hoops. I just added some greenery and ribbon to the embroidery hoops. I think they look so quaint and adorable!
Asymmetrical mantel decor
The placement of the embroidery hoops follow the line of the candle holders and add to the asymmetrical look of this mantel. I am not sure if you guys realize how big this is for me. I am usually all about symmetry! Ha! But I have to say that I adore this mantel this year!
I really love the mixed wood tones of the different candle holders and wood bead garlands. I was able to add all three accent colors to the mantel by using some ornaments instead of candles on the candle holders. Cute, huh?
This is the first time I have used multiple wood bead garlands and I LOVE this look! I just used command hooks to attach the garlands in several places.
Speaking of garland, this asymmetrical greenery garland is another first for me. I have seen this trend for the last couple years, but was not too keen on it initially. Let’s just say it has grown on me. 🙂
I used some inexpensive regular faux garland and bulked it up with some greenery stems that I found at Hobby Lobby to make it look more realistic. To complete the asymmetric look, I hung our stockings on one side and added some antique gold bells. They are really not antiques, I got them at Walmart. Ha! But I thought they look really good though!
Add some matching navy Christmas decor
I found some navy velvet pillow cases at Hobby Lobby and they went perfectly with the navy velvet ribbon on the presents under the tree. The ‘merry’ pillow was one of the DIY Christmas pillows we made a couple years ago.
Speaking of presents, my navy Christmas tree decorations do not stop with the tree. The theme continues to the presents under the tree. I love to coordinate the wrapping paper to my tree colors! Do you do that too?
I kept the wrapping paper simple this year with a combination of kraft and white wrapping paper. Then the presents are adorned with navy velvet ribbon and yarn, cream colored ribbon and crocheted ribbon to tie into the macrame ornaments on the tree. I also added some greenery and bells for some fun accents!
Add other decorations other than presents under the tree
Under the Christmas tree decorating is not only limited to presents however. This crock was a perfect addition under the tree as well! Not only does it look great, it is functional too. 🙂
If you read my DIY macrame wall hanging post last week, I talked about a smaller trial version to the wall hanging that I made. You can see it in the picture below. When I could not see the design, I decided to add some navy velvet ribbon to this one to highlight the Christmas tree. It looks pretty cute now, kind of like pixel art.
It is leaning against our DIY dough bowl. I love decorating with this piece, it is so versatile. It looks just as great leaning against the wall this year with my navy Christmas decor as it did last year filled with colorful vintage ornaments!
I know this was a long post with lots of pictures! I usually break it down into two posts with the mantel then the Christmas tree but I was on a time constraint this year. 😉 So you got a two for one post today!
It will be the same later in the week when I share my dining room tablescape and Christmas decorations. We are quickly closing in on Christmas! Are you ready?
You have amazing decorating skills, Kim! I love everything you did decorating your home for Christmas! The navy adds depth to the traditional red and green. Great job!
Awww…thanks so much Paula. Your comments always make me feel so good! Have a Merry Christmas!
