This neutral Easter decor is the perfect solution if you don’t like to decorate with all the pastel colors traditionally associated with Easter. It also lends itself to a more grown up look to Easter decorations.
Happy Wednesday! I am excited to share my neutral Easter decor with you today. I really like the earthy look to it with all the muted tones. Even one of my boys complimented me on the mantel and that is a rare thing around here. Ha! So I know it is really good. 😉
This year, I wanted to try more understated Easter decorating. I have decorated with the pastel colors in the past, but I was not up for that this year. Plus, I feel like this neutral Easter decor feels a bit more mature and sophisticated looking than decorating with pastel colors. Not that I won’t ever decorate with them again, I was just feeling something different this year.
Modern Farmhouse Easter Mantel
With aspects like the chippy mantel shelf and arches, the chicken wire cloche and the book page bunny garland, the Easter mantel definitely has a modern farmhouse vibe to it as well. I know that the farmhouse look is supposedly on it’s way out, but I don’t really care about that. Actually, it is still around, they are just calling it something different now. Ha! I still like the look of farmhouse decor, so I am going to decorate with it.
My advice when it comes to decorating is to ALWAYS decorate with what you love. Don’t waste your time chasing the trends, they come and go so fast that no one can keep up with them anyway. Plus you would probably go broke doing that! Pick staple decor items that have a timeless, classic look to them and you won’t have to worry about it. After all, you are the one who has to live with the decor in the end!
DIY your decor
I am also a fan of making my own decor items. Not only is this budget friendly, but it gives you a sense of pride in your decorating that you don’t get as much as when you buy the items. Don’t get me wrong, I love buying new decor too, but there is something about knowing that YOU made the items that you set out as decor. There are several DIY projects in this modern farmhouse Easter mantel that I have made.
For instance, this fluffy Easter bunny wreath. I just shared the tutorial for this with you last week. Check it out if you missed it! It was so easy and fun to make and it looks fantastic too, in my own opinion. I just love how soft and fuzzy it is.
The burlap and drop cloth wrapped books are another old project of mine. I don’t have a tutorial for them, but do you remember making book covers for text books back in the day? I am really showing my age now. LOL! I made them in the same way. If you are too young to know that reference, I am sure you can find a tutorial on You Tube. 🙂
The last DIY item on this neutral Easter mantel is this adorable paper bunny garland. I will be sharing a tutorial for that soon, so be on the lookout for it.
Neutral Easter Mantel Decor
Obviously, I did not make everything in my decor, it is nice to have a good balance. I found these cute fuzzy carrots at Walmart this year. They coordinated perfectly with the fuzzy bunny so I had to get them. They also worked flawlessly with my neutral Easter color theme.
I found this cool rustic bunny at Hobby Lobby. He is really cute and worked well for the earthy look for my mantel.
I had all of the greenery and floral stems already. I just grouped together some greenery stems and dried floral stems to fit the neutral color scheme. I am sure I got these at Hobby Lobby as well in the past. If they don’t have these exact ones, you could find something similar.
I also found the chicken wire cloche in the Easter section at Hobby Lobby this year. They call it a white metal birdcage, which technically it could be too, but I feel like a cloche is a better description. I am using it to hold some earth tone speckled eggs. I have made some DIY speckled eggs before, but these were ones that I previously purchased.
Coordinate the rest of the room
Since the Easter mantel is the focal piece in this room, the rest of the room coordinates with the mantel decor. I like to switch out my pillow covers to match the color scheme, in addition to any other accessories. I forgot to get pictures of my macrame eggs in our DIY sugar mold on the media console table on the other side of the room. Doh! However, I decorated them similar to the eggs with Spanish moss in this Easter tablescape. So you can imagine how they look. 😉
I will be back next week to share the bunny garland tutorial. Until then, have a wonderful week!
