Our youngest son helped me with making some paper Christmas cookies. Yes, paper cookies! Why not? Real cookies are fun to decorate so I figured paper cookies would be too! 🙂

This is an easy and fun Christmas craft that kids of all ages would enjoy. I think this would especially interest preschool kids that may be a little too young to help with frosting cookies. However, our youngest is ten and he still enjoyed doing it. Heck, I enjoyed making these paper cookies too! Ha!
For this project you will need:
- Card Stock – we used white, cream and kraft colors
- Cookie Cutters
- Scissors
- Glue
- Shaving Cream
- Acrylic Paint
- Small Paintbrushes
- Confetti, Glitter or Paper Sprinkles
We started off by tracing our cookie cutters onto the card stock with a pencil. Your cookies may look different depending on what kind of cookie cutters you use. I think it would be cute to use gingerbread cookie cutters with the kraft colored paper.
After they were all traced, we cut them out.
We made some puffy paint to represent the frosting on the cookies. You can always buy puffy paint at the store as well, but it is super easy and less expensive to make it at home. All you need to do is mix equal parts (half) glue and shaving cream together. Mix in some acrylic paint color of your choice to tint it. We made red and green and left one white.
Paint the frosting onto the cookies with a paintbrush. Try to keep the edges nice and crisp. I found it works better to apply the paint in small circles and don’t spread it too thin or you won’t get the puffy look you desire. Make sure to put some paper or something underneath so the kids don’t paint on the table! 🙂
While the paint is still wet, apply the glitter/confetti to resemble the sprinkles. I found some cute assorted Christmas confetti at Hobby Lobby.
Let them dry completely. They could be fun for pretend play or to display on a plate for decoration. We put ours on a plate to take some pictures.
Here are some others that my son made. He is awfully proud that he helped with this and couldn’t wait for the post to come out so he could see it. 🙂
We had a really nice time doing this together. I wasn’t sure if he would want to or not, but he said he liked it! I think your kids would enjoy it too!
See you back in a couple days for our 5th day of Christmas where we will be sharing holiday party food ideas. I got a really cute idea in mind to share!
