Happy Friday everyone! Do you have any big plans for the weekend? We are having a pretty low key weekend around here. Relaxing, hanging with friends and I will be researching and possibly working on some projects for spring already! Yay! I can’t wait for spring! If you follow my blog, you saw these adorable pom pom flowers and free vintage labels on my colorful Valentine’s Day mantel earlier this week. They were a simple and cute addition to the mantel and today I will show you how to make them! 🙂
*There are links to products in this post that I use or are similar to products I use. If you buy something from one of these links, I may make a small commission (with no additional cost to you) from the purchase. I will not recommend anything that I would not buy myself. Thank you for supporting my blog!
For this project you will need:
- Pom Pom maker
- Double stick tape
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Yarn
- Sticks (gather some from your yard)
- Various sized glass jars/bottles
- Foreign Language Love Labels
I used a Clover pom pom maker to make my pom poms. Yes, I know you can make them without one but this is so handy! Especially if you have a lot of pom poms to make! I originally bought the pom pom maker when I made my pom pom winter wreath. Check out that tutorial if you need instruction on how to make the pom poms.
I found some jars around the house and also bought some from Hobby Lobby. A couple of these jars were just olive jars! You never know how you can re-purpose something. So the lesson here is don’t throw anything anyway! Just kidding, I don’t want a bunch of hoarders on my hands. 😉 I had some sticks in my craft stash from a previous project. I just cut them down with a wire cutter to the size I wanted them to be. The sticks literally just came from our yard. No need to spend money on them!
To make the flowers, separate the pom pom to find the middle string that you tied around it. This is where you will glue it to the stick. Add some hot glue to the end of one of the sticks. Hold the pom pom onto the stick for a couple seconds, squeezing gently. Make sure it is firmly attached. That’s it! Super simple!
I used the same yarn colors that I used on this multicolored heart garland. Check out the tutorial to see how I made the garland. It was a really fun and easy project! I wanted the colors of the garland and the pom pom flowers to tie into each other.
I thought it would be cute to make some vintage looking labels for the jars. To go with the big ‘love’ sign on the mantel, each of the labels have the word ‘love’ on them in a different foreign language. Even though I usually can’t read them, I still like to look at words in other languages. They look so much more elegant, don’t they?
I made the labels in a program called PicMonkey. It is a very user friendly program to edit pictures and design images. We have Photoshop but I prefer to use PicMonkey because I do not have the Photoshop skills that Mr. Wonderful possesses. 😉 I know I could learn, I just haven’t taken the time to yet. This program is a cinch, anyone could use it! I highly recommend you check it out! To get the free printable labels click here.
You can just print them onto normal paper and cut them out. I attached them to the jars using some double stick tape. Another option would be to print them out onto sticker paper. This was just easier as I had the tape readily available and I figured it may be easier to take the labels off afterward. For the curved jars, it works well to curl the paper a bit before taping it on. Just run it along the edge of the table lightly to curl it slightly. Ooh a rhyme! I try to keep things interesting with the writing for you! 🙂
These decorations are an idea you could use for any holiday or season. Just change the colors of the pom pom flowers to match whatever you are decorating for!
Have a wonderful day!
