Wow! Isn’t it amazing that Christmas is next week! I wanted to share my red, green and plaid Christmas tree with you a little sooner than this, however, we have had a sad and eventful week. We unexpectedly lost someone very close to us a couple days ago. π It is never easy to lose someone you love but it serves as an important reminder that we are not in control. Our time in this world is finite so make sure to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you, and do this often. Give everyone you love an extra squeeze this holiday!
Back to the topic at hand! Christmas! I am loving how festive our house is looking this year. It has everything to do with the colors and patterns that I am using to decorate with. The red and green mixed with plaid screams Christmas to me. And I love every bit of it!
Also, I really like how everything coordinates together. Although I guess I made sure of that by using the same fabric for my DIY Christmas pillows, the backdrops on my plaid Christmas mantel, and the DIY wired ribbon on the tree! Even my DIY fabric reindeer coordinate!
I couldn’t find any plaid ribbon that coordinated well enough so I decided to make my own! Ha! I will be sharing a tutorial on the ribbon hopefully before Christmas but it may be after. We will see how the rest of this week goes. π (Here is the tutorial)
When we were setting up the tree and went to string on the lights, only half the strands were working. That has to be one of the most frustrating things! Amirite? I really didn’t want to buy new lights until after Christmas when they are on sale so I ended up using some lights that we had around. I think we bought them to use for outdoors but we never got around to putting them up. So they were brand new!
The only difference was that they had white stings and not green. I wasn’t sure how it would look but since I flocked our tree a little heavier this year, I thought they might blend in pretty well. I really am pleased with how they look. The flocking seems to camouflage the cords well. What do you think? Have you ever used white stringed lights before?
I think the heavier flock on the tree looks amazing too! I did a post a couple years ago on how to DIY flock your tree. Check that out if you are interested. It is really very easy and transforms your tree!
I have been so behind on things this year, I was literally wrapping presents this morning! Luckily I got them done in time to take pictures. π
Do you like to match your presents to your tree? I started doing that about 4 years ago, and I will never go back. I think it finishes off the tree. It is like the cherry on top. π Luckily I still had some of these simple hand embroidered gift tags that I made up last year. They look fantastic with this color combo too!
I found some fun ornaments after Christmas last year at Hobby Lobby. I bought them when they were 80% off! That makes it a lot easier to change up your Christmas decor from year to year!
Aren’t these little birds so cute? I love the feathery tails on them. I also was glad to find some more big ornaments on clearance. Makes it easier to buy those!
I hope you enjoyed seeing my red, green and plaid Christmas tree and that you got some decorating inspiration. If I don’t get another post up before the holiday, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!!
