Create a simple and classic table setting for the 4th of July. This patriotic tablescape is full of red, white and blue accents and will take your table from boring to fun and festive!
Hey guys! I am back today to share my simple 4th of July tablescape as promised! I love having my table all decorated, don’t you? Plus this is a tablescape that is simple enough that I can leave it up for decoration longer than just using it for one meal.
If you have not decorated a tablescape before, they are actually quite easy and fun to do. You will usually start by adding a table runner in the middle. This can be done on a bare table or one with a tablecloth already. If you don’t have a table runner, there are lots of options you can use as a table runner. For example, a scarf like I used in this Thanksgiving tablescape, a piece of fabric or even a blanket.
I actually layered three table runners here because I did not realize how small the navy blue star table runner was. I found it at Hobby Lobby and it was perfect for what I was looking for! Then when I got home and put it on the table, it was a tad short! Ha! So I improvised and I actually like the layered look better anyway! #happyaccident
The neutral colored table runner helps to tie into the chargers, the wood sticks on the flags and the wood colored star on the napkin rings. Speaking of these DIY patriotic napkin rings, did you see the tutorial for them a couple days ago? They were so easy to make and look spectacular, in my unbiased opinion. ๐
I love how the red and white stripes on the napkin ring also perfectly coordinate with the flags in the centerpiece. If you read my napkin ring tutorial, these were the flags I had originally considered cutting up but decided against. So instead of using them for that, I made a centerpiece out of them!
Speaking of that, the centerpiece is the next design element to consider for a tablescape. Usually I like to have one big centerpiece or a centerpiece made up of an odd number of items, like the 3 vases in this citrus and floral spring tablescape. This centerpiece is a very simple one but sometimes that is more practical anyway. After all you want to be able to actually see and talk to your guests over it! How do you like my buffet table? LOL It is actually our Lego storage system but we did not have any room for it anywhere else in this rental house, so I am using it as a buffet. ๐ I plan to share it a little more in an upcoming post because I plan to make some curtains to cover the bins on the front.
For the centerpiece, I just put the miniature stars into some bottles in a small wire holder and added some faux greenery around it. The greenery is a mix of eucalyptus and lamb’s ear. They were both garlands that I cut up into smaller chucks. The smaller chunks are more versatile this way, as I have used them in lots of ways including in vases, on my mantel, and to beef up other garland. Remember the dessert I made the other day?
You actually get two for one tablescapes today because I was originally planning on displaying my strawberry and blueberry trifle on the table as well but it ended up being too tall compared to the centerpiece and I did not like how that looked. So I decorated another simple 4th of July tablescape with it as the centerpiece.
With this variation, I put three bottles on each side of the trifle dish in descending height.
Again, I used the faux greenery around the bottom of the trifle dish. Which look do you like better? Sorry for that interruption, now back to tablescapes 101. ๐
The next elements you will want to add are some chargers and plates. It is great to find some neutral colored chargers as they can go with a lot of different colors. I actually used two chargers in this table setting. The neutral colored chargers are 15″ and looked too big for these 10.5″ plates. So I added a 13″ white charger in between. I found both of these chargers at Hobby Lobby.
I wanted a navy blue plate to break up the white charger and salad plates and found these navy blue banded plates at Walmart. They were super reasonable in price and are perfect for what I wanted! For the most part I use white plates for my tablescapes as they are a staple and can be used over and over. I don’t know about you, but who has the budget or room to go out and buy lots of different dishes?!
Lastly you want some napkins! The napkins are where I usually add in some color as you can see in this buffalo plaid Christmas tablescape. However, this tablescape called for clean and simple white napkins to keep that classic look I was going for. Napkin rings are optional on a tablescape, but I think they are a great place to add some character to your table setting. And as you know, you can make them yourself! If I haven’t said it enough already, I was super happy with how these DIY patriotic napkin rings came out. ๐
Since I was decorating a simple 4th of July tablescape, I did not add silverware or glasses but those would be the finishing touches to add to your table setting. Can you see how this simple tablescape doubles as dรฉcor to leave up if you have a formal table? We have another table that we can use to eat on so this works for us. It would obviously be harder to do if you only have one table.
Thanks for joining me for my simple 4th of July tablescape tour! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Stay safe and have a happy 4th of July!

Where did you purchase your greenery? The eucalyptus is beautiful as well as your decor.

Thank you Amy! I got the faux eucalyptus and lamb’s ear garlands from Hobby Lobby. The eucalyptus garland is one from the wedding section. I think it looks more realistic than the one in their regular greenery section. ๐
