Spring is finally here!! Yay! π This has been a post I have been meaning to get up for a while. My mantel was decorated a long time ago but we have been busy and I have been lacking in the motivation department! I figured I better share my spring mantel and living room now because soon I will start thinking about decorating for summer. Ha! That is how it goes, the decor around our house does not stay the same for long!
This year I wanted to decorate a quick and simple spring mantel and living room, so I used a lot of decor that I had previously made. Because of that, unfortunately I do not have tutorials on some of the projects. π BUT I can help you out with this wreath by pointing you in the direction of a tutorial! I made this several years ago using this tutorial. I decided to use the wreath as the focal point of the mantel because I loved the cheery spring colors. We needed a little spring in the house since it was not showing up outside!
It was a super easy wreath to make and the wreath can be totally adaptable to your house as you can find faux tulips in lots of different colors. I had picked mine up at Walmart but not sure if they still have this color there anymore.
The SPRING blocks were made using the crochet SPRING letters from the banner I used on my purple palette mantel. I loved those crochet letters and wanted to use them again but did not want to use the banner. So this time around I thought blocks would be super cute sitting on the mantel. Here is a tutorial on how to make the Spring wooden blocks.
Something was needed on the sides of the mantel to balance everything out. I had bought some tulips at the grocery store to use in my spring decor. So I decided to add three tulips to each side in different bottles. I varied the height of the bottles and tulips to make a triangle pattern out of the elements on the mantel. Triangles are frequently used in decorating and are pleasing to the eye. If you are trying to style a mantel or some shelves, try arranging things in triangle patterns and using groupings of three items. I think you will like the results! π
Because I LOVE symmetry, I added the water in the bottles at different levels to coordinate with the varying heights of the bottles and tulips. Of course they had to be at the same level on both sides though. I know, I know! I have a problem. π
Even though the faux flowers in the wreath are not the best quality, I feel like pairing real tulips with the faux ones helps to make them look better! Plus it is easier on the wallet than using all real flowers! You can even use this trick in flower arrangements too!
The remainder of the tulips I put into a pitcher and made a simple vignette to go on the coffee table. Bunnies are still okay to use after Easter, right? After all, you see them all over in the spring!
I made most of these pillow covers previously. Check out my tutorial on how to sew an easy zippered pillow cover to learn how to make your own pillow covers. I love to make pillow covers to coordinate with the rest of my decor. It is also a great way to lighten up a dark leather couch! π Especially the farmhouse grain sack pillows. I just love the patches on them!
The cute little bird pillow cover I made a couple years ago before I started blogging. I really wish I had taken some pictures of the process so I could share a tutorial with you. Really you just need some fabric scraps and fusible webbing. Maybe I still have the templates for the birds around, I will check for that!
I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful spring weather and everything that comes with it! It is the little things for me, like how it is soooooo nice to be able to leave the house without a coat! And hearing the birds chirping in the morning. And seeing the grass turning green and the flowers coming up! I am thoroughly enjoying it all, well most of it anyway. Today we were doing some raking in the yard. I think that is the worst part of spring! Ha! Oh well, I will take it! We better enjoy it now, before too long we will all be complaining it is too hot! π
Have a wonderful day!
