Hello all! It is a glorious day out today! The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, snow is melting and it is making me have spring fever BAD!! Luckily we don’t have long to wait before spring is here for real. St. Patrick’s Day always seems like a turning point in the year when the weather gets a lot nicer and the days are longer. The LONG winter is gone! This year I decided to decorate a fun St. Patrick’s Day farmhouse vignette instead of decorating on my mantel. I thought it was time to spread the decorating love around the house a bit. π
If you follow along with my blog, you know that I love farmhouse style but do not decorate with only white or neutrals. While I enjoy looking at pictures on Pinterest or other blogs of neutral decor, I would never be able to live without color in my world! I think you can still achieve a farmhouse look when using colors just by pulling in some vintage pieces. By the way, if you don’t follow along yet, you can sign up on the sidebar anytime to receive emails of all my posts. π
To make this vignette have a farmhouse feel, I included some pieces of decor that scream farmhouse to me. The backdrop is an old chippy paint window. Old windows are great for decorating with. Not only do they work good for backdrops like this, but you can also re-purpose them as frames, chalkboards, shelves or just as stand alone wall decor.
I made this cute farmhouse shamrock garland to hang on the window. The ticking stripe fabric really ties into the farmhouse feel. Check out the easy tutorial to make one of your own!
I picked up some white tulips at Walmart to add to the vignette. Normally I am not a real flowers person because they die so quickly. I would rather buy some nice looking faux ones that I will have around to use again. It seems more cost effective, right?
Well, I have been secretly wanting to try some real flowers in my decorating and when I saw how cheap they were I didn’t hesitate. I don’t know why I didn’t check the prices of them before this! I think they were only like $4.67 for the bunch. This will definitely not be a one time deal. I have officially jumped on the real flowers bandwagon! They made me smile every time I walked by them. π How about you, do you use real or faux flowers in your decorating?
The tulips lasted about a week and at the point when we took these pictures (when they were fully open), it was getting towards the end of the week. Literally the next day the petals started falling off! Good thing we took pictures when we did. Now I just have some cotton stems in the pitcher to replace them.
Speaking of the pitcher, I got it and the wash basin bowl at a thrift store for $8! What a steal! Actually my MIL was the one to spot it and she thought it looked like something I would like. Ummm…yes please! π While it is not real ironstone, it resembles it enough. It was perfect to add to the vignette for that farmhouse feel.
I made this burlap wreath a couple years ago. There are lots of tutorials on Pinterest if you want to make one of your own. It was easy to make and I have used it for different holidays. Just add an accent to it that fits the holiday and you are good to go. Like I did with these shamrocks.
We made this ‘lucky’ sign to go with the vignette. It is just one of the designs included in the interchangeable farmhouse sign that Mr. Wonderful made for me. Click that link for the tutorial, along with the free downloadable files.
If you want to see other examples of the sign in action you can check out my fall mantel and Disney inspired hot cocoa bar.
If you are a regular around here, you may recognize this wood shim shamrock. I made it to go on my shabby chic St. Patrick’s Day mantel last year. I thought it also fit well into this farmhouse theme and was too cute not to use again! π It has become really popular on Pinterest this year. Yay!!
Unlike the flowers, this plant is faux. I got it at Ikea. These plants are nice way to add a little greenery to your vignettes. Of course, there is a lot of green going on in this vignette already. It is actually a nice change because I don’t normally decorate with green. Close up you can obviously tell that the plant is fake, but it looks great from a distance and in pictures! π
I would love to hear some feedback from you all! Do you think the vignette looks farmhouse-y? I know, that is not a real word! π
Have a wonderful day and know spring is close! That should make everyone smile!
