There is no need to go out and spend a bunch of money on holiday decorations! This simple and charming St. Patrick’s Day mantel decor is full of budget friendly DIY projects you can do yourself!
I am a DIYer at heart, there is no doubt about it! I am always looking at items I love in stores and think, how can I make that myself? This also extends to my decorating. My St Patrick’s Day mantel decor this year is full of all kinds of past and present projects that I have made for the holiday.
If you are frequent visitor to my blog, then you know that I like to reuse my decorating items in new ways. I am not the type to go out and buy new items all the time. Where is the challenge in that? Unless you are trying to spend all your money before you die. LOL π
Not only is it a fun challenge for me to see how I can reuse my items, it is also more budget friendly and logical. Who has the room to store all kinds of holiday decorations anyway? Definitely not us! Especially after moving to Florida, no basements here!! Ha!
I am going to share some tips in this post on how you can reuse and repurpose your holiday decor too!
Repurpose your art for holidays
The first tip I have for you is to use the signs you already have in a different way. These wood signs were all bought for other holidays, in fact the big one in the middle at the top was just on my recent Christmas mantel.
There is an easy way to do this and I have even written a previous post to show you how to easily upcycle your signs. The key is scrapbook paper! There are so many different options out there that you can change up the look of your signs to whatever you want. The bigger signs obviously use more pieces, but for a couple dollars at the most, you have a new sign to use in your decor! π
Just make sure you line up any patterns to match! And yes, you can see where the paper joins on the bigger signs, but that doesn’t bother me. It can only be seen from a close distance anyway. You can even add fun accents to your signs like these wooden shamrocks. I just stuck these on with some double sided tape.
The green shamrock on the buffalo plaid sign is a separate wood decoration that just sits inside the frame perfectly.
All of the signs on my mantel except the ‘lucky’ sign were repurposed with scrapbook paper. Cool, huh? The ‘lucky’ sign is actually one that we made several years ago. It is an interchangeable farmhouse sign. That leads me to my next tip.
Use interchangeable holiday decor
It is nice when you have decorations that can work double duty, isn’t it? This sign for instance, has several different sayings that apply to different holidays and general use, so we can use it more than just once a year.
Another example of interchangeable decor is my simple St. Patrick’s Day wreath. This finger knitted wreath was one that I made several years ago, but I just recently had a brain child to make wreath accessories. This way you don’t have to buy new wreaths for every holiday, you can buy a few general purpose wreaths and accessorize them for the holidays!
Use your wood bead garlands in a new way
Wood bead garlands have become really popular lately, so if you have several of them lying around, you can repurpose them. I made this wood bead shamrock garland this year and I will be sharing the tutorial soon. But this tip is something I can tell you before I share that. It is easy to dress up a plain wood bead garland by adding some holiday accent pieces. In this case it is the shamrocks that I made.
Another way to repurpose them, paint the beads! Isn’t this black and white pattern cool?! It coordinates well with the rest of my black, white and green St. Patrick’s day mantel decor. The shamrocks are so soft and fuzzy too! I really like how this garland turned out. π
DIY your own pillow covers
Another good way on how to reuse your decor is to buy pillow inserts and change up the pillow covers instead of buying whole new pillows for the holidays! You can have lots of colors on hand that will work double duty. The dark green pillows were just used for my Christmas decor as well. Doing it this way allows me to economically change out my pillows to match with my decor for the season.
Another way to save money… make your own pillow covers! Like this DIY shamrock pillow that I just shared with you last week.
St. Patrick’s Day three tiered tray
This last tip applies to your decor items in general. Buy some staple items that you can use for every holiday. For example, this three tiered tray. You can change out the little decorations on it but it works all year long. I have decorated it for St. Patrick’s Day with some green plants and vases and added a cute bear and little vintage leprechauns.
We have had the bear and leprechauns around for a long time, I love the way the little leprechauns hang off the side.
St Patrick’s Day mantel decor
Is this post inspiring you to use the decor you already have in a new way? I hope so! I liked the simplicity of my St Patrick’s Day mantel decor this year. Decorating doesn’t have to be complicated, in fact, sometimes simpler is better! π
