You can easily transition from Christmas decor to Valentine’s Day decor by decorating a Valentine’s Day tree! This way you get to enjoy the pretty tree lights for even longer!
Hi sweet friends! I am back today to share my Valentine’s Day decorations with you. This year I was really bummed about having to take down my Christmas trees, so I decided I did not have to! 🙂 I turned one of them into a Valentine’s Day tree and it looks so spectacular! I love it!
Everyone in the family was on board for this idea too. They really liked how it turned out and thought I should just leave the tree up all year round and decorate it for the different holidays. Ha! I’m not sure about that, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you see the tree up early next year for Halloween!! 😉
I love that this gives me more ways to use some different color combinations of ornaments that I may not use for Christmas. Not that pinks and reds are so outrageous, but if I end up doing a Halloween tree, I could use purple, green and orange which I can guarantee you that I would not decorate with for Christmas! LOL!
I really like this color combo of pink, blush, red and burgundy paired with the champagne. Some of the colors are similar to my candy Christmas tree this year, so you would think that I left my Christmas ornaments on the tree right? Nope! I had already taken them off and put them away before I decided to make a Valentine’s tree. D’oh! Oh well, it was worth the extra work!
What to put on your Valentine’s Day tree
Besides the obvious ornaments in whatever color scheme you are using, you can use various different accessories to decorate your Valentine’s Day tree. I used some hearts that I already had from previous projects and turned them into ornaments. Think outside the box a little on what you can use.
Do you recognize any of the items on my tree? The 3D felt hearts were from this standing hearts project that I did a couple years ago. I made them into ornaments by threading some twine through a wood bead and running that up the center of the hearts. Easy as that!
The painted hearts on the silver book rings have been used several times. I first used them on this pretty in pink and gray mantel, on which you can also see the heart that I used for a tree topper! Next I used them on this Valentine’s Day wreath. They have come in handy lots of times!
These XO grapevine wreaths were ones that I made into a Valentine’s Day sign before. You can see that here in my farmhouse Valentine’s decor. If you can’t tell, I really like to find ways to reuse the decor that I already have instead of going out and buying all new. It is fun and very satisfying to come up with new ways to use the things you already have.
Use other accessories on your tree too
Don’t think you only have to add hearts and X’s and O’s to the Valentines Day tree. You can use ordinary items too, like some pretty faux flowers and greenery! Paired with some lace ribbon, these items give the tree a lovely feminine feel.
I also added some red berry stems and a wood bead garland to go with the baskets on the bottom. It also ties into the focal piece and other wood toned accents on the mantel.
I filled the baskets with other previous projects. Actually, now that I think about it, I didn’t have to buy anything new for this Valentine’s Day tree. Really this tree is just a culmination of all my past projects! Ha!
The big pink heart you can see in my vintage Valentine’s decor along with the macrame heart.
The other baskets contain the DIY sewn hearts that I made that are featured in that same post. They look great alongside some ornaments and sparkly lights!
Valentine’s Day Mantel
Let’s move onto the mantel that I decorated to coordinate with my Valentine’s Day tree. Since the evergreen tree has a wintery feel to it, I wanted to make the mantel cohesive with that wintery feel too, so I put together some floral arrangements that also had some evergreen stems. This really helped tie the mantel in with the tree. After all, even though it is not winter here, it still is winter in most of the country. 😉
I mixed in some pink flowers and red berries to match the tree. Then I added some dried stems to bring in the neutral wood tones from the focal piece on the mantel. It’s not roses, but I think it works well for a Valentine’s day floral arrangement.
Make your own mantel focal piece
Speaking of the focal piece on the mantel, what do you think of it? I originally had planned on making something to put up there, but that plan fell apart and so I kind of pieced this together with some separate pieces I found at Hobby Lobby.
The big hyacinth circle is a separate piece and I am sure it will become another staple in my decorating in the future. The heart in the middle actually came as two separate wood hearts. I painted the bigger solid one to match with the blush color in my decor, then glued the scrollwork heart on top of the blush heart. The hearts were only a few dollars each so I got a pretty nice focal piece for the mantle for not a lot of money! That is always a win!
I added some pink and red accessories on the mantel, including this cute sign. The mantel has a bit of a boho feel to me with all the wood tones and macramé touches. I do love a boho look so I’m not complaining!
Finish it off with a Heart garland
The finishing touch on the mantel was this embroidered hearts bunting that I shared with you last week. I had so many nice comments on this garland, thank you all for taking the time to give feedback, I really appreciate hearing from you all!
I hung a couple of the macrame hearts in the center. These hearts came from Hobby Lobby by the way, I did not make these. Although, I thought about making some to put on the tree as well but ran out of time. I will have to save that craft for next year. 😉
I really am tickled with how this came out, it is so pretty and delicate. The colors work perfectly with my decor too! Almost like it was planned. Ha!
Add some complementary pillows
You know that I had to add some coordinating pillows as usual! In fact, you may remember these knock off Pottery Barn heart shaped pillows that I shared with you a couple weeks ago. They work well with the Valentine’s Day decor. Our cat, Anna, has taken a liking to the big blush heart pillow. She discovered how soft and comfortable it is, it is one of her new favorite places to sleep. She somehow gets it knocked over so she can lay on top of it. LOL!
I hope you liked my Valentine’s Day tree and mantel! What do you think about decorating a tree for Valentine’s Day? Would you do it? It is a really easy way to transition from Christmas to Valentine’s Day and you are able to prolong a little of that twinkling lights magic. Hopefully I have inspired you to try it too! Have a wonderful week. Chat soon friends!
