This is always such a hard time for decorating. After the Christmas decor comes down, the house feels so empty and I want to fill it with something, but what? Do you decorate for winter or go straight to Valentine’s Day? Do you even decorate for Valentine’s Day for that matter? I know there are a lot of people who don’t. If that is the case, I think winter decor makes the most sense. I have been decorating for Valentine’s Day for the last couple of years and I like it. It is a fun and easy holiday to decorate for. If you do as well, I made a simple Valentine’s Day Wreath that I want to share with you today.
I have to be honest, I have been feeling very creatively unmotivated lately. It seems that I remember feeling the same way last year too. I think it has to do with this blah time of year. However, I decided that I need to do something so I decorated an easy Valentine’s Day Mantel using items I had around the house. I wanted to show how you can reuse the items you already have to get a whole new look. So you may recognize this wreath from my finger knitted Christmas wreath post. I just re-imagined it for Valentine’s Day! Check out the Christmas post to see how the wreath was made and this post to see a video to learn how to finger knit. Super easy!!
The beauty of this wreath is that it can work for any season or holiday. All you have to do is change out the accessories on it! For the Valentine’s Day version, I switched out the red ribbon for pink. I love satin ribbon, it lays so nicely and is so flowy. It is perfect to use on gifts and to hang wreaths. 😉 I just slipped the ribbon under one of the branches of the willow wreath form to hang it up.
Then just tied the ribbon around a nail on our shiplap backdrop. Luckily the bow hides the nail! 🙂
The hearts on the wreath were some that I used on my pretty in pink and gray Valentine’s Day mantel a couple years ago. They were hung on the wooden garland then. The opposing sides of the hearts were painted either pink or gray. For the wreath, I left the one side pink but the gray side got a new red paint job.
I used the same book rings from the wooden garland to hang them from the wreath, spacing out the hearts on the rings so that they would all show clearly. After trying some different heart size combinations, I decided on the two small red hearts with a big pink heart in the center showing on the front. This is what the rings look like from the back.
I used an extra piece of yarn to tie the top book ring to the wreath form. Again just like with my Christmas wreath, I did not use any hot glue so I am able to change the accessories up in the future.
Easy peasy! And it gives the wreath a whole new look, don’t you think? I will be sharing this year’s Valentine’s Day mantel next week to show more ways to reuse the decor you already have. See you soon!
