Dress up any wreath with these DIY interchangeable wreath accessories! You can easily change out your wreath decor for different seasons without having to buy new wreaths all the time!
I am really excited to share these easy interchangeable wreath accessories with you as it was an original idea of mine! Although who knows, maybe everyone reading this is like we already do that! LOL If that is the case, then I am glad I am finally on board. 😉
I shared this grapevine Valentine’s Day wreath last week in my farmhouse Valentine decor post. You can see how I decorated with the grapevine wreath there. However, the great thing about these wreath accessories is that you can use them on all kinds of different wreaths.
These seasonal wreath accessories are so fun and an easy way to update any wreath to be a holiday/seasonal wreath. It is almost like jewelry for your wreath! Ha! You can literally add any kind of decorations to your wreath by just clipping it on.
For now I only have wreath accessories for Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day. However, I know I will be making more for different holidays in the future. As I make more, I will add links to them as well! The ideas are endless, for instance, for Easter, you can add eggs or bunnies, flowers for spring or summer and flags for the 4th of July! You get the idea, right?
I will share how I made both of these seasonal DIY wreath accessories with you. It really is so simple, you will want to run out to get supplies to make your own! 🙂

Supplies to make Valentine’s Day wreath accessories
*There are links to products in this post that I use or are similar to products I use. If you buy something from one of these links, I may make a small commission (with no additional cost to you) from the purchase. I will not recommend anything that I would not buy myself.
- Felt sheets in colors of your choice – I used the colors sandstone, cream, baby pink, coral, tomato red, red and cranapple, all from Hobby Lobby.
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
- Mini clothespins (I found mine at Walmart years ago, but these are similar)
- Straight Pins
- Felt heart patterns (see below)
Print and cut out your felt hearts
When I was decorating for Valentine’s Day, I used the same hearts in multiple locations. So these are the same hearts as in my felt standing hearts. Check out that link for heart pattern and instructions on printing and cutting out the hearts.
Arrange your felt hearts in the pattern you desire
When you get some hearts cut out, you can arrange them in whatever pattern you like. I ended up using one heart of each color but I initially cut two out. I tried different layout options as you can see in the picture below.
In the end, I decided just to keep it simple and go with one heart of each color on one side, starting with the lightest color in front.
When gluing the hearts together, I laid them out on the wreath first, so the angles would be correct. Then starting with the top cream colored heart, I added hot glue to ONLY the top third of the back of the heart. Place the heart down onto the stack already on the wreath and press down to make sure the glue is bonded. Then continue with the rest of the hearts.
Once you have all the hearts glued together, you can go back and add glue to the bottom point of each heart.
Attach a mini clothespin to the back
Next, you will want to glue on a mini clothespin. I placed in right in the center of all the hearts.
Now you just clip it on to your wreath! How easy, right? It is like clip on earrings! Remember when I said the wreath accessories were like jewelry for your wreath, I wasn’t lying. LOL
I made my hearts to go on the upper left corner of the wreath but you can arrange the hearts to go on the opposite side too. I ended up making them both ways since I had the extra hearts.
Instead of using them on the wreath, I used them in a lantern in my Valentine farmhouse decor. 🙂
Here is the felt heart wreath accessory on three different wreaths so you can see how it looks on alternate wreaths.
Supplies to make St. Patrick’s Day wreath accessories
Now onto the St. Patrick’s Day wreath. You will see this wreath in an upcoming post as I am using it on my St. Patrick’s Day mantel so you get a sneak peek! 🙂 I used my DIY finger knitted wreath for this one. Instead of felt shamrocks, I opted for small wood ones. You can use pretty much anything for these wreath accessories as long as it gives you a flat back to glue the clothespin onto.
- Shamrock wood shapes
- Acrylic Paint in colors of your choice (I used paint I had on hand. You can see the colors in the picture but some of these are older)
- Foam brush
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
- Mini clothespins (I found mine at Walmart years ago, but these are similar)
Paint your shamrocks
I painted the biggest Shamrock in the darkest green, the middle size with the mid green tone and the smallest ones in the lightest green. There is no need to paint the back as it will not be seen. You can see the painting process in the video.
Lay the shamrocks out in the shape you want them and hot glue them together on the back of the shamrock. Again I laid them on the wreath first to get the right angles. Only glue the areas of the shamrocks that will touch each other.
Add the clothespin on the back of the shamrocks.
Clip the shamrock wreath accessory onto the wreath.
Here is the shamrock wreath accessory on three different wreaths so you can see how it looks on alternate wreaths.
Switch up your wreath accessories for the different holidays
Like I said before, these wreath accessories make it is ultra easy to change up your wreaths for the seasons. Here are side by side comparisons of different wreaths with the two wreath accessories. This will help you to see how you can change the look of one wreath using these. You don’t have to have a huge collection of wreaths, just wreath accessories! 😉

So what do you think of the wreath accessories? Are you going to make some? If you do, I would love to see pictures of what you come up with! I will share with you any that I come up with in the future too! Have a great day!
