Bring a subtle look to your fall decorating with this neutral fall decor. This timeless style would be perfect for farmhouse fall decorating or a minimalist style of decorating.
Can you believe it is November?! Where has this fall gone? Have you started decorating for Christmas yet or still holding on to fall? I am fully into Christmas mode around my house but I still had one more fall post to share with you… my neutral fall decor. Really, it is like two posts in one, as I am sharing a simple neutral fall tablescape and buffet style table decor.
Why choose neutral fall decor?
I am usually more of a fan of using color in my decorating, but I can certainly appreciate neutral decor as well. I love how versatile this neutral fall decor is. These neutral fall decorations would be perfect to have up all season long if you want a more minimal and subtle way to decorate.
They could also work double time for Thanksgiving which is not too far away! Add a couple rattan pumpkins to your table and you are good to go! π
One thing you can be sure of when decorating with neutral decor is that it will never go out of style! Unlike color trends in decorating, these colors are timeless so they will always look fantastic!
Another plus to decorating with neutral colors is that they are very easy to transition into another season. For instance, this neutral fall decor would be simple to transition to Christmas decor. Just remove the pumpkins and replace them with neutral colored Christmas trees! Then replace the wreath and sign with more Christmas themed ones and voila… you are done! π
A simple neutral fall tablescape
On this simple fall tablescape, I used our DIY dough bowl as the centerpiece. This is one of my favorite DIY projects that we have made and I use it all the time in my decorating. I love finding new ways to decorate with it. Dough bowls are great to fill with seasonal items or just have sitting against the wall as a decoration.
I found this huge rattan pumpkin this year at Ross Dress for Less store. I also got the apple cider sign from there. That was the first time I had ever been to that store and I scored! π They were very reasonable in price, however, I could sense it is a hit or miss type of store. You may get lucky or you may not. It is worth it to take a look though!
I filled the rest of the dough bowl with faux eucalyptus and lamb’s wool stems. They were originally both garlands that I cut into sections. I find them to be more usable this way than in a garland form. Then placed my DIY faux acorns next to the pumpkin.
These large acorns turned out so well! Did you see the tutorial for these last week? If not, check it out! I love that I will be able to use them in my Christmas decorating too!
To go along with the large neutral centerpiece pumpkin, I found these smaller rattan pumpkins at Hobby Lobby. The smaller pumpkins work wonderful as placeholders and they coordinated with the large pumpkin smashingly! π To finish off the neutral table setting, I used some gold lined plated and light gold chargers with cream colored linen napkins (affiliate link).
Coordinating buffet table decor
The second part of this post centers around the vignette on the “buffet table”. I am calling this my buffet table for ease, but if you follow along the blog, you will remember it is actually a Lego storage cabinet! Yes, really! I made some DIY cabinet curtains to hide the bins of Legos and now no-one is the wiser. Well, besides all of you, of course! π
I used my DIY wheat wreath in the vignette. This wreath still looks fabulous after several years of use! One thing that I have learned about it though is that it attracts our cats for some reason! They love the wheat! It is like cat nip to them or something. I ended up putting some wheat stems out lower so they would not be tempted to get up here and mess with the wreath! π FYI… the wheat stems did not survive the season, but the wreath did. Ha!
The wheat wreath is sitting on another one of our DIY projects, the $12 tobacco basket that we made! Not too shabby, huh? We found these printer press trays several years ago at a thrift store. I love the vintage feel they give to this vignette.
I added more neutral pumpkins along the top of the buffet table. This book page pumpkin was a fun project! I finally went in and painted the pumpkin white in between the roses. It drove me crazy that you could see the yellowish pumpkin between them. Check out the tutorial to see what I mean. It looks way better, right?
This wood floral pumpkin came from Hobby Lobby a couple years ago, however I saw it there again this year. Usually they have a lot of the same decor year after year so that makes it easy to get it if you want it still. Some coverless books and a white pumpkin in a basket work well to fit in with the neutral decor.
I put some neutral stems in a smoky glass vase to finish off the vignette.
You may have noticed the leaves in the background. Those were made from lunch sacks! I made them into a paper leaf garland. There is a free pattern for it if you want to make your own!
A walk down DIY memory lane
Wow! I did not realize that I used so many of our DIY projects in my neutral fall decor. Maybe I love neutral decor more than I thought. LOL Really though, I love seeing all the projects we have made over the years since I started this blog back in 2016!! Mr. Wonderful and I take a lot of pride in the work we do and want to put out quality work. Not to toot our own horn too much (wink, wink), but I think it speaks for itself that these projects have stood the test of time!
I wanted to take a minute to thank all of you who have been along for the journey with us this whole time, and to all of those that have joined us along the way. I am so grateful that I have been able to turn this hobby into a business. It would not be possible without all of you! So thank you!! Also, I love hearing your kind comments and encouragement so don’t be a stranger! π
